What are the responsibilities and job description for the Health Officer position at Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties?
Excellent opportunity for a qualified candidate to assume leadership of Public Health, Delta & Menominee Counties. The Health Officer/Administrator is responsible for taking actions necessary to protect the public health and prevent disease, and carrying out the legal functions of the Health Department. This position oversees the operation of all programs provided by the department and reports directly to the Board of Health. The department’s annual reports are available at www.phdm.org/about_us.
The job qualifications, as defined by Michigan’s Public Health Code, are as follows:
a) Have an M.P.H. or M.S.P.H. degree and three (3) years of full-time public health administrative experience, or
b) Have a related graduate degree and five (5) years of full-time public health administrative experience, or
c) Have a bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years of full-time public health experience, and five (5) years of which shall have been in the administration of a broad range of public health programs.
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and have the ability to work with a variety of state and local public officials, directors of several state departments and their staff, and local business, agency and medical communities.
