The Litigation Communications Officer is a full-time, on-site position located in Washington, DC. This role involves crafting strategic messaging and communications to support the organization's legal actions and advocacy efforts. Responsibilities include developing press releases, managing media relations, preparing presentations, creating written and digital content, coordinating with legal and campaign teams, and fostering relationships with journalists and media outlets. The officer will also monitor and analyze media coverage to amplify Public Citizen’s message effectively.
- Strong written communication skills, including press release writing, content creation, and the ability to convey complex legal matters in clear and accessible language
- Experience with public relations, media outreach, and building relationships with journalists and media professionals
- Proficiency in strategic communications, including developing and executing communication plans and crafting messaging for diverse audiences
- Familiarity with legal and policy research, and the ability to interpret and translate intricate legal and regulatory topics into engaging narratives
- Strong attention to detail, proofreading, and editing skills for a variety of communication materials
- Proficiency in using digital tools for social media management, content dissemination, and analytics is preferred
- Experience in nonprofit advocacy, policy campaigns, or legal communications is a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field
