What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Health Safety Specialist position at PTS Advance?
Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist | Faribault, MN | Direct Hire
I’m a third-party recruiter running a direct-hire search for a client, an established metal fabrication and industrial equipment manufacturer in Faribault, MN. The client’s name stays confidential until we talk.
Here’s the pitch: you’d be the site’s go-to expert for both safety and environmental compliance, out on the floor every day, with a seat in management meetings and a say in capital projects before they get built. If you like teaching, coaching, and fixing problems at the source, this one is worth a look.
Who should apply
- You’ve worked in a plant with welding, grinding, sandblasting, or powder coat and know what those processes mean for air, noise, and respiratory exposure
- You’ve handled environmental compliance hands-on, not just safety
- You’re comfortable leading supervisors and operators without being their boss
- You can travel up to 50%
Probably not the fit if you’re looking for a desk-based role, a safety-only role, or no travel.
What you’ll do
- Own the safety program for the Faribault site, including LOTO, electrical, confined space, PPE, powered industrial trucks, hearing conservation, and respiratory protection
- Run the environmental side: air permitting, EPCRA reporting, waste management, wastewater, and stormwater
- Build industrial hygiene plans for weld, sandblast, grind, and powder coat operations
- Spend your day on the floor doing inspections and audits and coaching the people doing the work
- Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, and make sure fixes get closed on time
- Develop and deliver safety training for employees and contractors
- Lead the site safety committee and emergency response team
- Give safety input on process hazard studies and capital projects
- Travel up to 50% to other company sites to support audits and safety initiatives
- Report to the company’s HSE Director
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in health, safety, environmental, or a related field
- 3 years in a role directly tied to health and safety, ideally in a manufacturing plant
- Real teaching and coaching experience
- Solid written and verbal communication, with diplomacy and tact
- Flexibility for the occasional early or late day to support shifts and projects
- Nice to have: ASP or GSP, and Spanish
What’s on offer
- Pay: $70,000 to $90,000 annually, flexible based on experience
- 401(k) with a 100% company match on the first 4%, immediately vested, with a Roth option
- Four medical plan options, including three HSA plans with company HSA contributions of up to $750 for single coverage and $1,500 for family coverage, and premiums held flat for 2026
- Dental and vision, plus healthcare and dependent care FSAs
- Company-paid life and AD&D insurance ($50,000) and company-paid short-term disability
- Employee assistance program with eight free counseling sessions per topic per year
