What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Designer/Fabricator position at PTR Welding?
PTR Welding is looking to augment its team by adding a CAD Designer/Fabricator. This is a dual role position; time is expected to be split between fabricating/welding on the shop floor and designing/generating shop drawings.
We will train. If you are an excellent fabricator - we will train you in CAD. If you are already an excellent designer - we will train you to fabricate.

At PTR Welding, a fabricator distinguishes his/her self by being not only able to weld, but able to visualize complex jobs from the start, develop a plan and sequence of events, execute, inspect, and ultimately deliver a high quality product.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Fabricate and weld varying weldments including railings, staircases, medium to large frames, misc structural steel, and others
- Develop CAD models and shop drawings
- Assist in the design, development, and improvement of production processes
- Act as primary technical lead
Requirements:
Either:
- 3 years of metal fabrication experience
- 3 years installation/field experience
- Proficient in MIG, Flux Core, and Dual Shield processes
- AWS certifiable
Or:
- 3 years of parametric modeling experience
- Proficient in reading shop and architectural drawings
- Strong leadership skills with a strong emphasis on mutual respect, communication, and team building
- Valid driver’s license w/ experience driving a 1-ton truck and trailer
- Computer skills/aptitude are a must
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience preferred
- Physical stamina to perform manual labor tasks in various weather conditions
Job duties include:
- General fabrication
- Cutting, drilling, punching, plasma cutting, and other processes common in fabrication projects
- Communicating with design team and understanding entire scope of projects/jobs
- Assist with continuous development of company processes and procedures
- Conduct site visits to perform field measurements and advise on complicated issues
- Develop models and shop drawings for new projects and products
- Compliance and supervision of 5S procedures
- Maintenance of equipment and tools
Compensation:
- 65,000 - 75,000 annually DOE
