Position Summary
The Transportation Operations Specialist supports the company’s logistics and transportation operations by coordinating third-party and LTL shipments, auditing freight invoices, maintaining transportation and maintenance records and supporting vendor and carrier relationships. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate billing, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance and cost control across the transportation network. The position works closely with Operations, Logistics, Customer Experience, Procurement and external carriers to support safe, timely and cost-effective transportation solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Audit LTL and FTL freight invoices to ensure accuracy of rates, accessorial charges and billing compliance.
- Partner with carriers and third-party logistics providers to resolve billing discrepancies and manage freight claims.
- Coordinate LTL shipments, backhauls, customer pickups and rate-quote documentation.
- Maintain transportation, maintenance and equipment records, including parts usage, repairs and service history.
- Manage parts inventory across multiple maintenance shop locations and prepare recurring inventory and cost reports.
- Support vendor relationships with third-party carriers, logistics providers and service partners.
- Analyze transportation and shipment data to identify trends, operational risks and cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain accurate customer and delivery contact information to support scheduling and service updates.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Operations, Logistics, Customer Experience, Procurement and Maintenance to support transportation initiatives.
- Assist with documentation and recordkeeping related to transportation regulations, safety standards and internal policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support operational and business needs.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or a related field preferred.
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in transportation, logistics or supply chain operations.
- Working knowledge of transportation regulations, safety standards and basic equipment or fleet maintenance concepts.
- Experience using transportation or logistics systems (e.g., TMS, ERP platforms).
- Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
- Experience with international or customs shipments is a plus.
- Preferred certifications include Certified Transportation Professional (CTP), Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified in Transportation and Logistics (CTL).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Primarily works in a warehouse environment with exposure to manufacturing operations.
- This position is primarily office-based with regular interaction with operations teams, leadership and external carriers.
- The role requires the ability to sit, stand and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasional travel (approximately 20%) to maintenance shops, manufacturing facilities and vendor locations is required.
- The position may require occasional walking through shop or warehouse environments and lifting up to 25 pounds.
