The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations and financial reporting functions of the Construction Division. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data, supports project financial management, supervises accounting processes, and maintains compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
The Accounting Manager plays a key leadership role in supporting operational efficiency, cost control, budgeting, cash flow management, and strategic financial decision-making within the division.
Financial Management & Oversight· Oversee daily accounting operations related to construction projects and company activities.
· Supervise project accounting, job cost tracking, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
· Monitor budgets, project profitability, overhead costs, and financial performance.
· Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
· Ensure proper allocation of labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
Reporting & Financial Analysis· Prepare and review monthly financial statements, project cost reports, forecasts, and management reports.
· Analyze financial variances, trends, and operational performance indicators.
· Support leadership with financial analysis and recommendations for business decisions.
· Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning.
· Coordinate year-end closing processes and audit preparation.
Accounts Payable, Receivable & Billing Oversight· Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
· Oversee progress billings, change order billings, collections, and subcontractor payments.
· Ensure compliance with contract terms, lien waivers, insurance requirements, and payment schedules.
· Review aging reports and support collection efforts when necessary.
Compliance & Internal Controls· Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, tax regulations, and labor requirements.
· Maintain and improve internal accounting controls and financial procedures.
· Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, and financial institutions.
· Support process improvements and accounting system efficiency.
Leadership & Collaboration· Supervise and support accounting staff within the division.
· Work closely with Project Managers, Operations, HR/Payroll, and Executive Leadership.
· Provide guidance and financial support to operational teams.
· Promote accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the department.
Qualifications & RequirementsEducation· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related fields (required).
· CPA designation preferred but not required.
Experience· Minimum 5–7 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
· Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or management role preferred.
· Strong understanding of construction accounting, job costing, billing, and financial controls.
· Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Skills· Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems (Sage, QuickBooks, or similar).
· Advanced Excel skills and strong financial reporting capabilities.
· Knowledge of payroll allocation, labor burdening, and construction financial reporting.
