Job Summary:
The Machine Operator (Set Up) is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of finishing equipment, including draw benches, moderns, saws, and bundling tables, to produce tubing products that meet customer and quality specifications. This position requires the ability to read work instructions and calibrated measuring devices, safely move materials, complete required production documentation, and perform routine equipment maintenance and housekeeping tasks. The Machine Operator (Set Up) plays a key role in ensuring efficient operations, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and supporting PTC’s commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Has ability to setup and operate the draw benches, moderns, Do All Saw, and bundling tables. May operate other equipment even though not able to setup as long as trained on the procedure.
- Operates and produces orders to specification – must know how to read and operate calibrated measuring devices.
- Moves material to and from equipment and assists other operators in the same process if waiting for crane
- Maintains machinery to the best of his/her ability
- Fills out production reports and paperwork accurately
- Cleans all areas of the plant when not directed by the supervisor to do anything else.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as directed
- The incumbent is expected to understand that all employees have a shared responsibility for the quality of products and related services provided to our customers. Duties and responsibilities are to be carried out in accordance with the PTC Quality Management System and its policies, procedures, and work instructions as applicable to the job or function being performed.

Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to reason through problems involving adjustments to equipment
- Average background in math and computers
- Also is expected to be able to lift, push, or pull a maximum 100 pounds.
- Required to walk, stand, or climb for the entire shift.
- Must be able to bend, squat and have full range of all limbs without restrictions.

- Always watch for sharp ends on tubes
- Do not place hands between loose or rolling tubes on tables (pinch or crushing points)
- Do not touch the cutoff piece or blade while the machine is running
- Do not place hands in collett
- Do not place your hands on the turning belts
- Air pressure (flying particles, shavings, and chips)
STRAIGHTENERS
HAZARDS –SAFE OPERATING PROCEDURE
- Rolling tubes – pinch point – crushing hazard
- Turning tubes – do not touch the tube or place your hand under the tube
- Do not wear canvas or rubber gloves – these types can stick to the tube's surface. While turning, this would cause severe injury to the hands and wrist or amputation.
- No loose clothing

- Do not touch sharp ends of tubes
- Do not place hands on moving or rolling tubes / pinching or crushing hazard
- Slippery floor
- Congestion - Tripping hazards (bander, crimper hoses and banding)

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however employees are expected to spend significant timer in the plant’s manufacturing areas where noise levels may be high.
