Position Overview
The Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and instrumentation systems that support plant operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of equipment across the manufacturing facility. The E&I Technician works collaboratively with Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations teams to minimize downtime and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems, instrumentation, and control devices used in production and utilities.
- Troubleshoot and repair motors, drives, control panels, PLC I/O, sensors, transmitters, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Calibrate and maintain process instruments (pressure, temperature, flow, and level transmitters) to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment and modifications to existing systems.
- Support PLC and control system upgrades, collaborating with Process Engineers and Automation teams.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and loop drawings.
- Ensure all work complies with electrical codes, safety standards, and company procedures.
- Participate in root cause analysis for electrical or instrumentation failures and recommend solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and update documentation as needed.
- Provide technical support during shutdowns, startups, and emergency repairs.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment working with electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Proven experience with 480V and below systems, industrial automation, and process instrumentation.
- Knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, and OSHA electrical safety standards.
- Experience with PLC-based systems (Allen-Bradley preferred) and control system troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining:
- AC/DC motors, drives, and control circuits
- Instrumentation loops (4–20mA, 0–10V)
- PLC input/output systems and basic ladder logic interpretation
- Relay logic, contactors, and control relays
- Industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.)
- Ability to use multimeters, calibrators, oscilloscopes, and process simulators.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and HMIs for monitoring and control.
- Understanding of lockout/tagout procedures, arc flash protection, and electrical isolation.
- Ability to work in industrial and production environments, including elevated areas and confined spaces.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical maintenance tasks.
- Availability for on-call support, weekend work, or shift coverage as needed.
- Exposure to heat, noise, and manufacturing equipment typical of a 24/7 plant operation.
