Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit accurate insurance claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring adherence to coding standards such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10.
- Review medical records and documentation to verify proper coding for diagnoses and procedures, including DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) assignments when applicable.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by communicating with insurance companies and resolving discrepancies through detailed medical collections efforts.
- Maintain comprehensive records of billing activities, claim statuses, and patient account information in accordance with privacy regulations.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to ensure accurate entry of medical terminology and coding details for each patient encounter.
- Stay updated on industry changes related to ICD coding updates, CPT coding guidelines, and insurance policies to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Assist in training team members on new billing procedures or system updates related to medical billing, ICD coding, or EMR/EHR systems.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of mental health terminology, medical records management, and the healthcare revenue cycle process.
- Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding
- Experience with EMR systems and EHR platforms for billing and documentation purposes.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex medical collections processes efficiently while maintaining a positive customer service approach.
- Attention to detail with a focus on accuracy in coding, documentation, and data entry tasks.
