Hours: Part-Time (10–20 hours per week)

Compensation: Competitive; commensurate with experience

Position Overview

PSM Associates is seeking a skilled Utility Relocation Engineer for a flexible, part-time role based in Contra Costa County. This hybrid position combines virtual work with necessary in-office and on-site field operations. The ideal candidate will manage complex utility relocation projects within Caltrans Right-of-Way (ROW), ensuring seamless coordination across multiple utility types. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Oversight: Manage and engineer utility relocation processes within Caltrans ROW.
  • Utility Coordination: Oversee conflicts and relocations for diverse systems, including:
  • PG&E Infrastructure: High/low-pressure gas and high-voltage electrical lines (both overhead and underground).
  • Wet Utilities: Water distribution, wastewater systems, and storm drains. 
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary liaison between the design team, agency representatives, and internal teams.


Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven Expertise: Direct experience managing utility relocation projects specifically within Caltrans ROW.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of PG&E gas/electric systems and municipal wet utilities and their associated agencies.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Licensing: A valid California Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred (though candidates with extensive matching experience will be considered). 



Work Environment

This is a hybrid role. Candidates must be local to the San Francisco East Bay area to facilitate a mix of remote work, office meetings, and active field visits.
