The Plastic Injection Mold Setter is responsible for setting up, changing over, and optimizing plastic injection molding machines to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role works closely with production, quality, and maintenance teams to meet production schedules and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Set up and change over injection molds, including installation, alignment, and connection of water, air, and hydraulics
Start up machines and adjust processing parameters (temperature, pressure, cycle time, clamp force, etc.)
Troubleshoot molding issues such as short shots, flash, sink marks, warpage, and cosmetic defects
Verify molds and machines are running according to process sheets and work instructions
Perform first-piece inspections and support quality approvals
Monitor machines during production and make necessary adjustments to maintain part quality
Safely handle molds, tooling, and equipment using cranes, hoists, and forklifts as required
Perform minor mold and machine maintenance (cleaning, lubrication, part replacement)
Document setup parameters, changes, and production issues
Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to setup reduction, scrap reduction, and efficiency
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred
2 years of experience as an Injection Mold Setter or similar role
Strong understanding of plastic injection molding processes and materials
Ability to read blueprints, setup sheets, and process documentation
Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills
Familiarity with quality inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience with hot runner systems
Knowledge of scientific molding principles
Forklift and overhead crane certification
Experience with automated molding cells and auxiliary equipment (robots, dryers, chillers, conveyors)
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods
Ability to work in hot, noisy, and fast-paced conditions
Work Environment
Manufacturing/production floor
PPE required (safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection)
May require overtime, weekends, or shift work
Salary : $22 - $25
