The Opportunity
As a General Rigging Estimator, you will estimate labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and related costs for self-performed millwright and rigging projects of varying size and complexity. You’ll work closely with Sales/Business Development and Operations to understand customer needs, build accurate estimates, and support safe, successful project execution.
What You’ll Do
Lead Safe & Practical Planning
- Champion safety by identifying hazards early and incorporating safe execution into every estimate
- Partner with EHS, Operations, and Project Managers during pre-job planning to ensure practical, field-ready solutions
- Support PSC’s safety culture by ensuring estimates reflect real-world conditions, not assumptions
Develop Accurate, Competitive Estimates
- Own the estimating process from initial inquiry through final proposal
- Review scope, drawings, site conditions, and customer requirements to build accurate labor, equipment, and material costs
- Reverse-plan complex rigging and millwright activities to establish realistic manpower, durations, and equipment needs
- Build contingencies into estimates for risk, technical challenges, and schedule pressures
Manage Pricing, Vendors & Documentation
- Solicit pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and equipment suppliers; evaluate and incorporate into estimates
- Prepare detailed proposals and cost breakdowns aligned with PSC standards
- Maintain organized estimate files, revisions, assumptions, notes, and supporting documentation
- Assist Sales and Project Management with cost updates, budget forecasts, and value-engineering options
Support Sales & Client Relationships
- Serve as a key technical resource for Sales/Business Development during client conversations
- Participate in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and job walks to clarify scope and gather cost-critical details
- Provide timely, complete estimates that strengthen client confidence and improve PSC’s win rate
- Communicate scope, assumptions, and constraints clearly to internal and external stakeholders
Coordinate Internally Across PSC
- Work closely with Project Managers on handoffs, budgets, and scope alignment
- Collaborate with Operations/Dispatch on manpower, equipment planning, and schedule feasibility
- Partner with Finance to support forecasting, cost tracking, and review of estimate performance
- Keep senior management informed of major opportunities, risks, and high-value bids

- Strong numerical, analytical, and spreadsheet skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including technical writing)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strategic problem-solver with the ability to think ahead and anticipate challenges
- Strong planning, reverse-planning, scheduling, and multitasking skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, bids, and deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to adapt and respond to changing scopes, schedules, and customer needs
- Effective at building relationships and negotiating with clients, vendors, and subcontractors
- Ability to work effectively with leadership, peers, field teams, and client stakeholders
Education
· Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field; equivalent industry experience will be strongly considered
Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in industrial construction (rigging, millwright, or related field preferred)
- Experience reading and interpreting technical plans, drawings, and specifications
- Experience developing and tracking project budgets and/or estimates
- Experience in industrial sales or customer-facing project roles is a plus
