Position: VISUAL ARTS TEACHER
Eligibility:
● Satisfactory/Effective rated teaching experience preferred
● Excellent attendance and punctuality
● Thorough knowledge and previous experience teaching NYCDOE Visual Arts: Blueprint for teaching and learning curriculum that is aligned to the Blueprint for the Arts and the Next Generation Learning Standards
● Demonstrated ability to integrate Next Generation Learning Standards into the Visual Arts Curriculum
● Knowledge of NYSED Culturally-Responsive and Sustaining Education
● NYSED Visual Arts License or NYSED Teaching License for grades K-5
Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
● Teach students in grades K-5 using the NYCDOE Visual Arts: Blueprint for teaching and learning
● Work closely with classroom teachers to provide resources to integrate visual arts into the social studies and literacy curriculum
● Teach students in a variety of groupings such as small groups from across the grade
● Collect assessment data via notes, student work samples, formative and summative assessments on all students and provide meaningful feedback to teachers, parents and students on progress
● Read IEPs for all students and have a clear awareness of their strengths, needs and learning goals
● Engage students in developing their own learning goals for visual arts
● Provide opportunities for students to learn about important contemporary and historical figures in visual arts
● Provide meaningful opportunities for students to engage in discourse about Visual Arts, both their own work, and the work of known artists
● Provide report card grades to teachers on a timely basis
● Meet with parents during Parent Teacher Conferences and as requested
● Engage students in developing their own learning goals for visual arts
● Use positive behavior reinforcement techniques to manage student behaviors
● Communicate regularly with the AP and Principal about school-wide Visual Arts needs
● Work with administration to design meaningful workshops for staff on Visual Arts and
Learning
● Participate in DOE, district, or other professional development to further skill development and understanding of the NYS Next Generation Learning Standards, the Blueprint for the Arts, and other relevant topics
