SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 2:15-6:00 pm. Availability for all of these hours is essential.

Overview:

PS10 Extended Day is looking for part-time Group Leaders for our in-person program. We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic staff who are dedicated to the growth and development of children to join our unique enrichment-based program.

The ideal candidate would be a proactive problem-solver. A positive, caring, and fun attitude combined with creativity, innovation, and passion for working with children is essential. Group Leaders are expected to help create an environment that encourages children's creative thinking, verbal communication, independent exploration, self-confidence, self-awareness, and well-being. We will work together to make you and this program the best we can be!

General Duties:

Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Group Leader will assist with the implementation of the PS 10 Extended Day program. The Group Leader is responsible for helping to maintain a safe, clean program site; ensuring a high level of program quality and working to establish a positive relationship with all program participants and their families. The Group Leader will be a positive role model to youth within the philosophy of the PS 10 Extended Day standards.

Group Leader / Teacher Assistant Principal Duties:

- Supervise children, prioritizing safety, according to the PS 10 safety policy.
- Participate and encourage positive participation of all students in daily activities and events.
- Under the Teaching Artist's supervision, help implement the day’s activity.
- Lead organized learning activities for students to develop and strengthen their academic,
physical, and social skills.
- Differentiate lessons and activities to be appropriate to students with various
abilities.
- Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
- Instruct students on the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment.
- Implement positive discipline techniques and classroom management.
- Participate in cleaning, disinfecting, sanitizing and maintaining the facilities and equipment.
- Inspect the school site and the equipment for potential safety hazards; take corrective
action to prevent injuries.
- Interact professionally and appropriately with parents, teachers, school staff and Extended
Day staff.
- Participate in school site staff meetings and ongoing training opportunities.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings, training, and special events as required by the program.
- Follow PS 10 Extended Day policies and procedures including the discipline code.
- All other pertaining duties as indicated by the Director, Assistant Director, or Senior Group
Leader

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications:

  • Must be 18-years-old or older
  • Minimum H.S. diploma/GED
  • Must be able to climb stairs, stand for long periods and lift at least 40 pounds
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth from 5 to 11 years old.
  • Willingness to take initial and annual background checks.
  • Ability to provide at least 1 personal and 1 professional work reference from a supervisor.
  • Ability to arrive early or on time, properly prepared for work.
  • Ability to care about, understand, listen to, nurture, support, and accept all children.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to work toward the shared goal of maintaining the high standards of the PS10 Extended Days program.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive and respectful relationships with families, students and co-workers of diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to articulate ideas and knowledge clearly.
  • Willingness to hear feedback to improve performance and outcomes.
  • Must possess strong classroom management skills.
  • Able to develop lesson plans; teaching and designing curricula is a strong plus.

Additional advantages:

  • Valid CPR/AED Pro certification through recognized accrediting body preferred.
  • Valid First Aid/RTE certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.

PS 10 Extended Day is a parent created, PTA overseen low-cost high-quality enrichment-based afterschool program dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing afterschool environment for the diverse community of PS10 Elementary School. We believe an exposure to a wide range of activities and disciplines help children discover their interests & passions early on, and develop self-esteem & confidence while learning to be curious and proactive learners.
