Position Summary

The Process Control Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing process control strategies that improve safety, quality, productivity, and reliability throughout the optical fiber manufacturing process. This role partners closely with production, engineering, maintenance, quality, and automation teams to analyze manufacturing data, troubleshoot process issues, and implement continuous improvements.

Experience with optical fiber manufacturing processes—including VAD (Vapor Axial Deposition), OVD (Outside Vapor Deposition), AVD (Axial Vapor Deposition), PCVD (Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition), preform manufacturing, and fiber draw operations—is highly preferred. Candidates with strong industrial process control and automation experience from similar manufacturing environments are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize process control strategies to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Analyze production and process data to identify trends, variation, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support manufacturing operations involving:
  • VAD
  • OVD
  • AVD
  • PCVD
  • Preform manufacturing
  • Fiber draw operations
  • Develop and maintain statistical process control (SPC) systems.
  • Improve process capability, yield, product quality, and equipment uptime.
  • Investigate process deviations and lead root cause analysis efforts.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Automation, and R&D teams to implement process improvements.
  • Support commissioning and startup of new equipment and manufacturing lines.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and process documentation.
  • Identify automation opportunities that improve consistency and reduce variation.
  • Lead or participate in Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives.
  • Monitor key process indicators and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in:
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Materials Science
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Engineering Technology
  • or a related engineering discipline
  • 3 years of experience in process engineering, process control, manufacturing engineering, or automation.
  • Experience analyzing manufacturing data and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Optical fiber manufacturing
  • VAD process
  • OVD process
  • AVD process
  • PCVD process
  • Preform manufacturing
  • Fiber draw manufacturing
  • Glass manufacturing
  • Specialty materials manufacturing
  • Semiconductor manufacturing
  • Chemical processing
  • High-volume continuous manufacturing

Experience with:

  • PLC programming and troubleshooting
  • SCADA and HMI systems
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC)
  • Minitab, JMP, or other statistical software
  • SQL, Python, or data analytics tools
  • MES systems
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
