What are the responsibilities and job description for the Histology Technician (Early Morning shift) position at PRW Laboratories?
Shift: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 3am-11am.
Essential Duties:
- Maintains processors, microtomes, stainers and coverslipping machines
- Performs frozen section procedures as needed
- Conducts hazardous waste control and proper disposal of all biohazardous materials and chemically hazardous materials
- Performs IHC testing using the Leica stainers
- Handles sendout preparations, quality control paperwork, and system documentation
- Prepares reagents
- Labels slides and distributes cases to pathologists
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Understanding of tissue structures, techniques, principles, theory and instrumentation
- Familiarity with routine handling of outside customer samples
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Must have excellent hand-eye coordination
- Must be detail oriented
- Ability to learn new computer software
- Must be able to prioritize job tasks and meet deadlines
Experience:
- 1 year histology experience (REQUIRED)
- ASCP HT or HTL or certification eligible. Proof of eligibility required prior to date of employment. Certification for “eligible” employees shall be acquired within one year from date of hire. Certification must remain current for continued employment.
- Surgical pathology grossing experience a plus!
Education (Preferred):
A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university with a minimum combination of 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both).
