As a Disability Claim Examiner, you will play a critical role in supporting our customers during some of the most important moments of their lives. You will manage a caseload of Short-Term Disability and Absence claims, applying sound judgment, analytical expertise, and empathy to deliver timely, accurate, and fair claim decisions. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a collaborative, performance driven environment that values quality, accountability, and professional growth.
This role is intended for candidates who are local to the Portland, ME area and able to work onsite during an initial training and coaching period (approximately 6–7 months) at our Portland, ME office. Following successful completion of this onsite period and based on demonstrated proficiency, independence, and readiness for the role, the position is expected to transition to a fully virtual work arrangement. While the long‑term work arrangement is remote and does not require regular on‑site presence, occasional visits to a Prudential office may be required based on business needs.
What you can expect:
Independently manage a designated block of Disability and Absence claims from intake through resolution.
Deliver accurate, timely, and well-reasoned claim decisions in accordance with policy provisions and regulatory requirements.
Serve as a trusted partner to stakeholders by providing clear, compassionate, and professional communication.
Maintain a strong focus on customer experience, ensuring claimants feel supported and informed throughout the process.
Analyze medical, occupational, and financial information to determine eligibility and ongoing benefits.
Build and maintain productive customer relationships through reliability, responsiveness, and sound judgment.
Consistently meet productivity, quality, and service metrics in a fast paced, performance driven environment.
Collaborate with peers and leaders while demonstrating the ability to work independently and take ownership of outcomes.
What you’ll need:
Open to candidates with diverse professional backgrounds, including hospitality, case management, absence management, and short‑term disability functions.
Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, managing competing priorities with strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Demonstrated success in achieving individual development goals and performance objectives.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex decisions clearly.
Proven customer service skills with a genuine commitment to helping other.Highly organized, goal oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Ability to adapt and thrive in a changing, evolving organization.
Proficiency in a Windows based environment, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
It’d be a plus if you had:
2–3 years of experience managing Short Term Disability and/or Absence claims.
Previous knowledge of claim and risk management, including contract interpretation and administration.
College degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience.

Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $53,300.00 to $88,000.00. Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills.
