Essential Duties & Responsibilities Accountabilities 

·         Responsible for providing psychiatric services to clients in a variety of clinical settings during scheduled hours. Scope of services includes outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.  

·         Assess, diagnose, and treat children (ages 5 ), adolescents, adults, and older adults experiencing symptoms of behavioral health disorders while achieving targeted client impact time. 

·         Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and the state’s Nurse Practice Act.  

·         Collaborate with therapists, case managers, or other treatment team members to coordinate client care. 

·         Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records, including assessment, treatment plan, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries. 

·         Develop and maintain strong relationships with contracted collaborating psychiatrist(s). 

·         Counsel clients during appointments, as necessary. 

·         Design/participate in the development of individualized treatment plans, incorporating best and leading practices into treatment interventions. 

·         Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders. 

·         Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client’s conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate. 

·         Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to entities/agencies (funders, insurance companies, etc.) as required. 

·         Respond to client emergencies. 

·         Responsible for making independent decisions based on protocols developed utilizing national guidelines for treatment interventions. 

·         Responsible for maintaining customer relations with all agency staff and clients. 

·         Maintain medical records for supervising psychiatrist to review 10% of them biweekly and 20% of notes for clients who are prescribed controlled substances per the Collaborative Practice Agreement. 

·         Record all services performed for accurate billing for services provided in compliance with all local, state and federal laws, as well as payor rules and regulations. Submits billing documents in a timely fashion. 

·         Look for ways to improve and promote quality. Provides teaching and education to clinical staff, if requested. 

·         Follow all procedures and protocols as per Provident policy, federal and state regulations, standard practice, and in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement.  

·         Actively participate in all agency and department education, training, and in-services to confirm understanding of new information or changes to established clinical policies and procedures. 

 

Work Conditions and Environment 

·         Work at least 2 days per week out of one or more Provident office(s), including:  

o    Provident’s St. Louis City location at 2650 Olive Street, St. Louis, MO  63103 

o    Provident’s Creve Coeur office at 12141 Ladue Road, Creve Coeur, MO  63141 

·         Some opportunities for remote work, Must have a reliable high-speed internet connection and confidential workspace to work remotely, when authorized.   

·         Work schedule created in collaboration with Vice President of Programs, with work hours falling between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm, Monday through Friday and aligning with ours that MAs and support team are scheduled. 

·         Accessible to Provident’s team of 24/7 crisis workers for clinical consultation to support PMHNP’s active clients.  

·         Continuously meet minimum required hours/# of appointments of direct services to clients each week, allowing remainder of work hours for documentation, meetings, trainings, and supervision. 

·         The noise level in the work environment is usually low. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Have the ability to sit for long periods of time. 

·         The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.  

·         Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.  

·         Attend in-person trainings on site at one or more Provident office locations, or community based throughout the St. Louis metro area and at assigned schools, as needed.  

Potential to advance to full time based when caseload grows, flexible days with Tuesdays required to be in person at St. Louis City office. May also work out of Creve Coeur office.

Candidate will work with youth, adults, and older adult clients at Provident, providing both telehealth and in person psychiatric evaluation and medication management services in an outpatient setting.

 

Position is incentive-eligible for # of appointments provided exceeding monthly target.

 

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) provides outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services to youth, adults, and older adults in the Provident’s Psychiatric Services department in office-based and telehealth settings. Provident is a St. Louis based behavioral health agency with a rich history of serving the community since 1860. The PMHNP will work in coordination with Provident’s counseling services to provide outpatient psychiatric services to clients with a variety of behavioral health issues. This position will work under a collaborative practice agreement with an external psychiatrist(s), established upon hire. Liability insurance and collaborating physician costs are both paid for by Provident. The PMHNP will work out of one or more Provident office sites in the St. Louis metro area, with the option for hybrid/remote work, as well. The PMHNP will work in collaboration with the Psychiatric Services care team, which includes Medical Assistants (MA) and Office Administrators (OA), to assist with client care.  

 

Job Requirements and Qualifications 

 

Minimum Education:   

·         Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing with focus on Psychiatric Nursing 

·         Graduation from a state-certified advance practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health 

 

Minimum Experience:   

·         At least 1-2 years providing direct client care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders  

·         Ability to work with both adult and youth/child populations 

 

Licenses/Certifications:   

·         Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) 

·         Unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Missouri 

·         Valid DEA number and unrestricted DEA license in Missouri (or ability to obtain within 12 months from hire) 

·         A state-issued Controlled Substance Registration (CSR) through Missouri’s Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) 

·         Registration with the state Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) in St. Louis County and for Missouri (when state-wide PMP is developed), where direct services will be provided 

·         No suspension/exclusion/debarment from participation in federal health care programs (e.g. Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP) 

·         Maintain credentials and licensure with all major insurance companies and licensing boards with the assistance of Provident credentialing staff. 

Preferred Experience: 

·         3 years of experience as a psychiatric provider 

·         Experience in telemedicine

 

Other Skills Required 

·         Clinical competency treating clients of all ages, including youth, adult, and older adult populations with a variety of behavioral health concerns. 

·         Experience and ability delivering high-quality, client-centered care 

·         Strong skills using and navigating computers and software programs. Ability to navigate computer, phone, electronic health record (EHR), Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Outlook), and other information technology systems independently.  

·         Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, such as risk assessment and safety planning. 

·         Ability to effectively communicate and interact with individuals involved in all aspects of programming and client care, including but not limited to children, parents, therapists, case manager, medical providers, school faculty and staff, collaborating psychiatrists, grantors, funders, partner agencies, members of the community and Provident team members. 

·         Serves as a representative of Provident, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration and discretion in all interactions with Provident team members, clients, school system staff and faculty, grantors, funders, regulators and members of the general public 

·         Participate as a team member, collaborating with and providing excellent customer service to clients, funding sources, peers, other Provident employees, and other internal and external customers.  

·         Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general and professional documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations 

·         Ability to foster teamwork; train and direct the work of team members and colleagues 

·         Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work productively and make independent decisions.  

·         Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action 

·         Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, such as risk assessment and safety planning. 

·         Knowledge of HIPAA and ability to maintain confidentiality. 

·         Skilled in preparing and maintaining client documentation in an accurate and timely manner, in compliance with established audit and productivity standards.  

·         Ability to foster a positive and inclusive work culture with staff and colleagues and inclusive treatment environment for clients.
