Part Time Per Diem Shifts

A nursing student employed for the purpose of giving patient care under the direction and supervision of an assigned registered nurse.

Join our team at Swedish Issaquah where you’ll support nurses both in and out of surgery, among other patient care tasks. • Works under supervision of the RN to provide care and service to patients and their families. Receives direction from the RN for delegation of tasks. Adheres to emergency policies and procedures associated with patient care.
• Transports patients as directed.
• Appropriately communicates and documents all daily activities and care provided to patient. Communicates and documents unusual and complex issues and changes in patient condition in a timely manner. Communicates and documents such actions accurately and legibly.
• Provides patient care as directed by team RN and within scope of practice. Duties performed may include, but are not limited to: making and changing beds, assisting with ADL’s, vital signs, urinary catheter care and removal, Intake & Output’s, ambulation assistance, assisting patients to the bathroom, assisting patients with using a bedpan, assisting with pericare, assisting the patient with feeding, and performing chemstrip functions.
• Performs courtesy patient rounds with frequency as delegated by the RN.
• Answers the unit telephone and patient call system in a timely fashion.
• Responds appropriately and timely to unit and patient alarms.
• Collaborates with nurse and other team members to organize and prioritize functions necessary for patient admission and care delivery.
• Responsible for restocking supplies after use, maintains appropriate core stocking levels, works with manager or designee to improve unit and individual routines to assure adequate room supply without excess or depletion. Notifies nurse manager and/or designee and makes recommendation for par level adjustments.
• Works collaboratively to manage the use of supplies as directed, and charges for supplies used.
• Responsible to set up and maintain the neatness of patient rooms. Cleans equipment as directed.
• Maintains quality control logs such as for urine dip sticks, glucose controls, temperature log-book, and medication refrigerator temperatures.
• Assists with patient admission, discharge, transfer, and associated documentation. Responsible for the documentation and the care of patient belongings.
• Participates in system-wide emergency situations as directed.
• Actively participates in unit, department, and system-wide educational activities including Quality Improvement programs as appropriate.
• Competently performs assigned technical skills as delineated in Nursing Technician 1 Skills Checklist(e.g. vital signs, bladder scans, specimen collection and testing, glucose monitoring, dressing changes, assisting with ADLs,)
• Performs other duties as assigned, to insure effectiveness of care delivery and unit function.

Required qualifications:

• Current enrollment in and satisfactory completion of at least one academic term (quarter or semester) of a nursing program approved by the Washington State Nursing Commission and a nationally accredited nursing program such as Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The academic term must have included a clinical component. BSN program preferred.
• Nursing program education and practice in the scope of care for the patient population on the unit of hire (i.e. pediatrics, med/surg, OB, etc.) The nursing technician will provide SMC written documentation by their nursing program of the specific nursing functions/tasks they are able to perform.
• Continued enrollment in a Washington State Nursing Commission approved nursing program and a nationally accredited nursing program such as Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). This enrollment must be maintained throughout employment as a Nursing Technician. This enrollment includes periods of scheduled vacation and holiday time. Official enrollment does not include any of the following: leave of absence from a nursing program; withdrawal (temporary or permanent) from a nursing program; enrollment in prerequisite course study or courses offered through the department of nursing or allied health programs with no current official enrollment into an approved nursing program; and students awaiting re-enrollment into a nursing program.
• Washington Nursing Technician Registration upon hire.
• National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
