JOB DESCRIPTION:
The overarching goal of the Outreach Coordinator is to assist women who are being released from prison or jail in gaining an accurate understanding of our Women’s Justice Program (WJP) and to assist them in determining if residing in our transitional residence and participating in our program will help them stabilize their lives, establish new skills, and patterns of behavior and thinking to enable them to avoid further arrests or violations. Specifically, the Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for going to Bedford and Taconic correctional facilities two days a week and Rikers Island correctional facility one day a week to provide information about Providence House WJP to prison staff, lawyers, and persons in custody. The position will require occasional evening and weekend work hours and travel throughout the NYC/Westchester area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish relationships with appropriate personnel at Bedford, Taconic, and Rikers (Rosie’s) and other correctional facilities whose role is focused on discharge planning;
- Provide written material, videos, and explanation of the Providence House WJP program to women needing transitional housing;
- Develop strategic relationships with referring agencies, and law departments and conduct informational presentations;
- Develop brochures, and other marketing materials for WJP in conjunction with our development team;
- Organizing outreach events, including publicizing and planning to promote the services of WJP;
- Keep accurate, up-to-date documentation on all outreach efforts and contacts;
- Assist with the intake and referral process;
- Recruit and outreach new clients for the WJP program;
- Coordinate the ‘Our Journey’ meetings and outreach/planning for those meetings;
- Maintain appropriate documentation of services; maintain thorough and accurate records, files, and correspondence in written and electronic form;
- Maintain regular contact with clients through phone contacts;
- Maintain ongoing communications with former clients to inform them of educational, training, and other opportunities;
- Interfaces with other staff to ensure communication and teamwork;
- Participate in criminal justice reform and advocacy events;
- Represent the agency and program at external events and networking meetings;
- Assists with any data collection system;
- Attend all training, meetings, and supervision;
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

- Effectively use and practice Sanctuary Models tools; safety plans, community meetings, psycho-educational groups, team meetings, red flags reviews, and self-care in the program to create a non-violent and trauma sensitive culture.
- Promote and model the core values of Providence House Mission (Compassion, Non-Violence, Hospitality, and Community) and the Seven Sanctuary Model Commitments to create a non-violent and trauma sensitive culture.
- Integrate the Sanctuary Model SELF (Safety, Emotional Management, Loss and Future) framework into daily practice to ensure quality care and an effective work environment.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor of Science in Social Work or related degree.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience with the justice system
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently.
- Competent technology management skills, including proficiency with using Microsoft Office; and client database management.
- Requires travel within the 5 boroughs and Westchester.
- Compatible philosophy with Providence House and Sanctuary paradigm.
WORK SCHEDULE
- The Outreach Coordinator position is a full-time, salaried position. Hours worked will be weekdays and flexible to accommodate client availability. Evening and/or weekend work may be required on occasion.
- The office location for this position is Brooklyn, New York.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a salaried, non-exempt position. Salary is $50,000.00 Annually. Reimbursement for mileage expenses to locations beyond the initial worksite. Benefits include 14 paid holidays, 3 weeks of vacation (with additional accruals based on agency tenure), 3 personal days, 12 sick days, early closure at 12pm on Fridays proceeding Monday holidays, and a day off annually in recognition of your Birthday.
