Providence is seeking a Senior Clinical Informatics Education Specialist who will:

  • Serve as a positive, progressive learning and development informatics professional focused on supporting PSJH CI education goals for EHR and other information systems deployment, sustainment, adoption, and optimization activities.
  • Collaborate with other CI team members, system analysts, and stakeholders, the CI Education Specialist is responsible for the development of materials and learning packages with attention to adult learning principles, instructional design best practices, content efficiency and user self-sufficiency.
  • Using established PSJH CI instructional design models and format standards, the Sr. CI Education Specialist will design, create, maintain, and optimize information systems education curriculum and adoption materials, including multimedia deliverables, to support in-person and virtual instructor-led training, self-paced online learning, and other system adoption initiatives for the entire PSJH organization, its affiliates and Community Connect customers.
  • Be responsible for the support of technical training environments needed for education delivery, support of the PSJH CI Epic Credential Training Program and participating in deployment go-lives.
  • As an informatics professional, the Sr. CI Education Specialist also participates in system and workflow design and optimization.

In this position, you will:

  • Collaborates with other Clinical Informatics (CI) team members, business informatics, system analysts, and stakeholders to support informatics education, adoption, and communication efforts for business and clinical information systems and technologies deployment, sustainment, and optimization.
  • Serves as the change communication and education subject matter expert in project teams.
  • Leads curriculum design and review efforts providing expert guidance to support effective and relevant learning objectives and content.
  • Trains, mentors, and communicates with PSJH Affiliates, Community Connect, and PSJH Epic Credential Trainers.
  • Designs, writes, and creates curriculum and adoption materials, including multimedia deliverables, to support in-person and virtual instructor-led training, self-paced online learning, and other system adoption initiatives for a variety of audiences as assigned.
  • Incorporates instructional design best practice and adult learning theory to address a target audience’s learning needs.
  • Authors content that is flexible, relevant, and supports end user self-sufficiency using established PSJH CI design models, formatting, publishing, and content management standards.
  • Designs for and develops online video and interactive training materials using eLearning authoring software as assigned to support achievement of learning objectives identified as appropriate for audience learning needs.
  • Develops, builds, and maintains training scenarios (e.g., patient build and practice users) in system training environments, including build documentation and supportive user references. Trouble-shoots issues related to scenarios and system training environments.
  • Participates in CI team content quality review processes and edits education deliverables to support consistency and adherence to CI education standards and style guidelines.
  • Develops and analyzes assessments, evaluations, and other feedback mechanisms to determine effectiveness of education deliverables and delivery, providing recommendations for and/or instituting improvements in accordance with best practice and adult learning theory to achieve education goals.
  • Manages assigned content and monitors for currency. Updates content based on system or process changes in a timely manner following CI education standard processes.
  • Guides education materials distribution via the PSJH LMS and other CI standard tools.
  • Supports role mapping and training logistical planning for large deployments.
  • Develops communication related to education efforts for deployments, upgrades, optimizations and other system changes as assigned.
  • Manages education team projects and leads committees as assigned.
  • Participates in other Cl activities, such as system and workflow design and optimization, training, go-live support, and other activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates compliance with PSJH and departmental policies and procedures. Maintains compliance with annual PSJH education requirements.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge required to fulfill role functions and work assignments.

  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and to organize workload to ensure that timeframes are met and the work is successfully completed within deadlines.
  • Demonstrated planning and project oversight/management skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to a wide range of audience and for different types of deliverables including online learning, change communication and training deliverables; excellent listening skills; strong editing, and proof reading skills.
  • Ability to conduct learning task analysis derived from understanding system functionality and end user workflow to identify learning objectives to meet curricula performance outcomes, ability to develop exercises/practice scenarios to support performance outcomes, ability to evaluate effectiveness of training.
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand end user workflow and system functionality to be able to guide education approach and materials content.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to effectively work with geographically separated teams. Ability to travel occasionally to support health system initiatives.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Organizational Development, Informatics, Healthcare or equivalent education/experience.
  • 4 years experience in roles focused on designing and writing education and training materials and/or delivering training.
  • Epic certification in one or more Epic modules as assigned to support the needs of the CI education team and department as a whole. Certification to be initiated as directed and completed within 6 months upon completion of Epic training. Once obtained, Epic certification must remain current for assigned modules.
  • Other system application certifications to complete assigned work; certifications are expected to be completed on all modules assigned to support the needs of the CI education team and department as a whole.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Coursework/Training in Healthcare related field or equivalent education/experience.
  • 5 years experience in a position working with and/or supporting business and/or clinical information systems within a healthcare setting with a preference for training delivery experience.
  • Experience supporting working in a multi-site healthcare organization.
  • Experience in a position working with Epic.
  • Experience with designing eLearning content for and use of interactive and video software such as Captivate, Articulate, and Camtasia.
  • Education or Instructional Design related certification preferred within 5 years of hire.
