SUMMARY:
Knowledge of general nursing principles and understand of the concepts of aging and concerns of the elderly population. Displays positive professional image and enhances positive public relations for the facility. Responsible for Clinical Orientation, and Staff Development
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. Supports the Mission, Values and Vision of Providence Health Care, Inc.
2. Create and constantly evaluate quality staff education programs based on the needs of employees
3. Promote constructive working relationships between health care disciplines throughout the facility
4. Participate in various committees
5. Promote favorable public relations
6. Exhibit professional nursing leadership
7. Be an advocate of and manage staff development
8. Perform related tasks as required
9. Is knowledgeable of patient rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment.
10. Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
a. Confidentiality of all data, including patient, employee and operations data.
b. Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
c. Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
11. Supports and participates in common teamwork:
a. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
b. Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
c. Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or patients regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns.

13. Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
INTERPRETATION OF DUTIES
1. Retain and develop clinical staff
2. Assure all required nursing orientation and staff development programs are conducted and recorded
3. Conducts new hire orientation and annual skill assessments
4. Assist in the development and implementation of the CNA Training Program
5. Coordinate specific work tasks with other personnel within the unit as well as within other units and departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
6. Respond to inquiries relating to his/her particular area within given timeframes and within established policy.
7. Assist with Safety Assurance for Residents and Staff Members
a. Observe staff members’ safety practices and reporting procedures and initiate measures for retraining when necessary.
b. Inspect the environment for risk factors during rounds
c. Observes staff compliance with OSHA requirements
d. Inspects and observes the use of medical devices
e. Collaborate with Social Service Director to preform and evaluate elopement drills.
8. Promote Constructive Working Relationships Between Health Care Disciplines
i. b. Communicate with department heads to problem solve and plan for improved care and services
ii. c. Participate in Nursing Department Management meetings to exchange information and address issues affecting resident care and promote job satisfaction

a. Maintain current knowledge of scope of practice for self and support staff.
b. Maintain familiarity with current state and federal regulations.
c. Encourage innovative methods for delivery of long-term care
d. Adhere to the Nurse Practice Act
e. Display courteous, cooperative, helpful manner with residents, visitors and other employees.
f. Provides skilled nursing care, as necessary
g. Provides consultation of licensed and unlicensed staff regarding polices, procedures, and resident care as well as clinical monitoring
h. Know and follow existing lines of communication and authority
i. Assure that resident rights are maintained at all times, reporting suspected deviations to immediate supervisor
j. Serve as liaison to residents and sponsors for suggestions and concerns
11. Attend management meetings as requested by Director of Nursing
12. Other duties as assigned, including tasks which support the essential functions that includes filling in staffing holes as they arise.
EDUCATION
1. Licensed Registered Nurse graduate from an accredited school of nursing with a current license to practice in the State of Indiana in good standing; BSN preferred.
2. Two years’ experience in geriatric or long-term care nursing preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1. Physical
a. Will need to be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist and reach to the floor.
2. Sensory
a. Must be able to receive and follow verbal and written instruction.
b. Must be able to respond to audible emergency signals, alarms, call lights and telephones. c. Must be able to read regular/small size print in multiple colors.
3. Cognitive
a. Must be able to remember multiple assignments over an extended period of time. b. Be able to remember data derived from assessments and document, review, specific requests, ideas and concepts and relate them as necessary.
c. Must be able to concentrate on details during constant interruptions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled setting. There is the potential for exposure to blood, body tissues and fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases. Exposure to chemicals is occasional. There is known stress associated with working with patients who are ill, confused, irritable or irrational.
EQUIPMENT USED
Equipment used: Writing implements, computer, calculator, fax machine, telephone call systems, photocopier and other equipment as necessary.
