Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Instructional Assistant II to join our team at Providence Elementary School. This full-time position involves working closely with students who have diverse learning needs, supporting their academic and social development in a collaborative environment. Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide direct support to students in academic tasks, behavioral management, and social interactions.
- Facilitate small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring sessions to reinforce learning objectives.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting findings to the teacher and special education team.
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization to create an effective learning environment.
- Support students during transitions, including moving between classes and participating in extracurricular activities.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Maintain a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere, promoting positive behavior and conflict resolution skills among students.
- Assist with the implementation of technology and adaptive equipment to enhance learning experiences for students with disabilities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education laws, practices, and instructional strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from the classroom teacher and special education staff.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to support student learning.
- Ability to lift and assist students as needed, including those with physical disabilities.
