Special Ed Instructional Assistant II

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Instructional Assistant II to join our team at Providence Elementary School. This full-time position involves working closely with students who have diverse learning needs, supporting their academic and social development in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom atmosphere, helping students achieve their individual goals, and collaborating effectively with teachers and other staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
• Provide direct support to students in academic tasks, behavioral management, and social interactions.
• Facilitate small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring sessions to reinforce learning objectives.
• Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting findings to the teacher and special education team.
• Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization to create an effective learning environment.
• Support students during transitions, including moving between classes and participating in extracurricular activities.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student support.
• Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
• Maintain a safe and respectful classroom atmosphere, promoting positive behavior and conflict resolution skills among students.
• Assist with the implementation of technology and adaptive equipment to enhance learning experiences for students with disabilities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of special education laws, practices, and instructional strategies.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from the classroom teacher and special education staff.
• Proficiency in using technology and educational software to support student learning.
• Ability to lift and assist students as needed, including those with physical disabilities.
