JOB SUMMARY
Provide the full scope of physician services which fall under his/her field of training, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance to patients sixty-five (65) years of age and above. In addition, the Physician is a member of the Providence Care team. In that capacity, they are expected to be familiar with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Agency and work collaboratively to achieve them. They must be cognizant of, and comply with, all Providence Care policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state and federal regulations. The primary purpose of your job position is to assume overall responsibility for the medical component of the patient care program. You will have overall responsibility for the care and treatment of patients and their families and shall consult and cooperate with the patient’s attending or specialty physicians if required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Review health history and perform physical examinations.
- Diagnose and direct counseling for each patient on a plan for treatment.
- Prescribe medication in accordance with South Carolina statute and professional practice guidelines.
- Perform minor surgical procedures.
- Arrange referral for patients requiring services not offered at Providence Care.
- Review incoming reports (e.g. lab, x-ray, EKG) sign, date and follow-up in a timely manner.
- Successfully carry a caseload of patients that averages 12-15 patients per day.
- Participate in staff outreach and off-site health care programs in the Providence Care service area as assigned by the Medical Director.
- Comply with the Providence Care Infection Control plan, which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Ensure compliance by support staff.
- Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings.
- Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested.
- Assist in outside medical public relations functions.
- Adhere to Providence Care productivity standards and meet at least the minimum requirement.

- Current South Carolina State Medical License and a Valid Driver’s License and Car insurance
- Current D.E.A. Certificate
- Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal / Family Medicine. If Board Eligible at the time of hire, must be Board Certified within 3 years of hire date.
- Insurability (malpractice)
- Controlled substance registration
Experience
Must have, as a minimum, one (1) to five (5) years’ experience in medical practice with experience as a patient medical director preferred. New graduates are considered. Board Certified in family medicine, internal medicine or one of its sub-specialties, eligibility and/or certification by the American Academy of Patient and Palliative Medicine desirable or willingness to obtain certification.
