Job Roles And Responsibilities
- Interpret RFQs, customer drawings, fabrication drawings, structural drawings, and specifications to define project scope.
- Prepare detailed project estimates including materials, labor hours, equipment, and subcontractor requirements.
- Break down fabrication work into process steps and assign labor hours per process.
- Develop bills of materials (BOM) for custom fabrication and structural assemblies.
- Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes for materials and outsourced work.
- Coordinate material sourcing and assist with procurement planning.
- Ensure material orders align with production schedules and delivery timelines.
- Communicate project scope and requirements to design and engineering teams.
- Support design teams for projects lacking complete drawings or specifications.
- Assist shop and field operations teams with planning project execution and timelines.
- Conduct material takeoffs and verify quantities from drawings and site information.
- Manage multiple estimating projects simultaneously.
- Ensure estimates are accurate, detailed, and aligned with company costing standards.
- Collaborate with production, design, and operations teams throughout project lifecycle.
- 5 years of experience in estimating, fabrication, or construction-related cost analysis.
- Strong experience interpreting fabrication, structural, mechanical, and architectural drawings.
- Hands-on fabrication experience (metal fabrication, welding, sheet metal, or structural steel preferred).
- Experience creating bills of materials (BOM) from technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of fabrication workflows, production processes, and shop operations.
- Proven ability to perform material takeoffs and labor estimation.
- Experience working with vendors and subcontractors for pricing and procurement.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail with ability to balance speed and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills across technical teams.
- Experience working with fabrication shops or industrial manufacturing environments preferred.
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
