Job Title: Clinical Director (LCSW, LPC, LMFT) - Residential Behavioral Health & Substance Use Treatment

Executive Summary

The Clinical Director provides overarching clinical oversight for detoxification, residential, and therapeutic programs. This leadership role is responsible for supervising a multi-disciplinary team of therapists, counselors, and group facilitators while ensuring strict compliance with safety, quality improvement, and state and federal regulatory standards. The Clinical Director also delivers direct client services when necessary and maintains full responsibility for authorizing and supervising all behavioral health services administered under the facility's license.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Supervision & Departmental Leadership

  • Oversee and mentor a multi-disciplinary clinical team of 10 or more clinicians, counselors, and group facilitators.
  • Lead weekly clinical supervision meetings, case conferences, and clinical consultation sessions.
  • Recruit, train, evaluate, and manage clinical staff performance, including scheduling to ensure continuous program coverage.
  • Supervise staff in diagnostic assessments, social/economic problem identification, and the creation or modification of individualized treatment plans.
  • Designate qualified coverage for prolonged clinical supervisor absences.

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance

  • Utilize clinical auditing tools daily to monitor service delivery, documentation accuracy, and quality metrics across medical records.
  • Maintain complete compliance with state and federal regulations, local policies, and Joint Commission standards.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Medical departments to address performance gaps in clinical documentation and service delivery.
  • Develop, revise, and implement clinical policies, procedures, departmental goals, and evidence-based group curricula.
  • Ensure licensing and accreditation documentation remains current and on file.

Direct Clinical Care & Program Operations

  • Perform direct clinical care as needed, including individual therapy, group therapy, case management, treatment planning, and discharge/aftercare planning.
  • Manage complex or high-acuity cases directly and provide diagnostic and outreach services.
  • Adjust program schedules to align with state healthcare service mandates.
  • Respond to clinical emergencies and initiate appropriate crisis intervention protocols.
  • Maintain proficient knowledge of ICD-10 diagnostic codes and ASAM criteria across all care levels.
  • Facilitate professional communication with client families, insurance representatives, and external care providers.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Credentials & Experience

  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted State of Wisconsin clinical license as an LCSW, LPC, or LMFT.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in behavioral health or substance use treatment.
  • Supervisory Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a clinical leadership or supervisory role within a behavioral health or substance use setting.
  • Education: Master's degree in Social Work, Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with Utilization Review (UR).
  • Demonstrated background in medical records auditing and quality control.

Core Competencies & Knowledge

  • Clinical Knowledge: Advanced understanding of the 12-step treatment model, dual diagnosis treatment practices, and non-pharmacological symptom management techniques.
  • Regulatory Mastery: Advanced knowledge of HIPAA regulations and 42 CFR Part 2 requirements.
  • Operational Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and basic familiarity with data analysis and operational reporting.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Abilities: Strong capacity to design efficient workflows, analyze clinical data, and resolve complex administrative or clinical issues.
  • Professional Ethics: Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards, client confidentiality, and respectful communication across all facility interactions.

Shift Schedule & Working Conditions

  • Primary Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM.
  • Weekend Coverage: Rotating on-site weekend coverage, paired with a flexed schedule day off (Friday or Monday) during assigned weekends.
  • Facility Type: Residential Inpatient Behavioral Health & Substance Use Treatment.
  • Patient Population: Adult clients (Ages 18-64), fully ambulatory.
  • Staff-to-Client Ratio: 1:6 ratio.
