Job Title: Sheet Metal/Laser Programmer

Reports To: Plant Manager
Position Purpose
The Sheet Metal/Laser Programmer is responsible for programming and operating CNC laser cutters, press brakes, and punch/press machines, as well as managing related files for the manufacturing of sheet metal parts. This role also supports machine assembly, testing, and prototyping to ensure accurate and timely job completions.
Key Responsibilities
· Create and manage AutoCAD drawings of parts (from scratch in AutoCAD LT or from Autodesk Inventor 3D geometry).
· Generate DXF files for laser cutting and manage them properly on the network.
· Create and manage cutting layouts and program files in SigmaNEST , SigmaBend, and SigmaQuote software.
· Execute job assignments and coordinate with lead personnel to ensure timely completion.
· Ensure sheet metal parts meet specifications and are delivered on schedule.
· Manage and maintain CNC programming files.
· Troubleshoot and resolve issues with laser equipment and programs.
· Review part designs for functional and efficiency improvements.
· Participate in costing analysis for parts, particularly laser cutting.
· Work with customers and prospects to provide quotes and fabricate parts per drawings.
· Assist with new product design, prototyping, and documentation.
· Maintain tooling inventory and provide feedback on manufacturing times and feasibility.
· Perform preventative maintenance and general cleaning of equipment.
· Support other departments as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
· Ability to read and interpret assembly and detailed part drawings.
· Proficiency with CAD data, CNC program creation, and file management.
· Required Software Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, SigmaNEST (required).
· Strong 3D visualization and nesting skills for sheet metal manufacturing.
· Ability to apply practical problem-solving and common-sense judgment.
· Solid math skills, including fractions, decimals, and measurement conversions.
· Proficient in reading a ruler and producing clear written and verbal communication in English.
· Must pass proficiency exams.
· Experience: 12–18 months related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Working Environment
Primary schedule: First shift in the main manufacturing facility. May require occasional overtime or off-shift work. Moderate noise and dust levels.
Physical Requirements
Regular activities: standing, walking, sitting, handling parts, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and verbal communication. Occasional lifting/moving of objects up to 60 lbs. Vision requirements: close vision, color vision, and focus adjustment.
