Job Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the distribution yard, ensuring efficiency in inventory handling, safety, quality control, and customer satisfaction. This role works closely with manufacturing and sales teams to maintain smooth operations while emphasizing strong customer service and accountability.
Duties
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard and surrounding areas
Material Handling
- Oversee unloading of inbound trucks and ensure accurate order verification
- Organize and store inventory efficiently upon arrival
- Supervise safe and proper loading of outbound trucks
- Ensure quality and accuracy when processing engineered wood products (EWP)
- Conduct cycle counts and investigate inventory discrepancies
Shipping
- Ensure all delivery trucks are prepared and ready for dispatch by 7 AM
- Perform quality checks on outgoing loads
- Document and report damaged materials with detailed information
Credits & Inventory
- Process returned materials and credits the same day
- Document non-creditable items with photos and notes
- Maintain accurate logs for accounting and inventory purposes
Communication
- Communicate stock shortages with purchasing
- Notify sales team of incoming special orders
Leadership
- Lead and support yard operations team
- Set clear expectations and performance standards
- Promote a safe and efficient work environment
- Collaborate with leadership to resolve operational challenges
- Report any facility damage (fences, gates, etc.)
- Enforce a “clean as you go” work environment
- Coordinate maintenance and repairs for forklifts and equipment
