We are seeking a Controls / Automation Engineer whose primary role is to design, program, and support high-performance packaging machinery with integrated robotics, motion control, and data acquisition systems. This is a hands-on engineering position that combines controls design, programming, and real-world machine integration — from concept through commissioning. You’ll help deliver innovative, connected automation solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and visibility in modern packaging operations.
Qualifications:Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, and integrate electrical control systems for custom packaging machinery and robotic applications.
- Develop PLC, HMI, and motion control logic (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or Beckhoff platforms).
- Integrate and program industrial robots (Fanuc, ABB, UR, etc.) for pick-and-place and assembly operations.
- Implement data acquisition and connectivity solutions for production monitoring, OEE, and performance analytics.
- Configure and support industrial networks and communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP, OPC UA).
- Create and maintain detailed electrical drawings, schematics, and documentation using AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical.
- Collaborate with mechanical, software, and process engineers to ensure seamless machine functionality and system performance.
- Commission and troubleshoot systems in-house and at customer sites (some travel required).
- Ensure designs comply with electrical and safety standards (NFPA 79, UL508A, CE, OSHA).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3 years of experience in controls or automation engineering for machinery or manufacturing systems.
- Proficiency with PLC and HMI programming (Allen-Bradley ControlLogix / CompactLogix, Siemens TIA Portal, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of servo motion control, robotics integration, and industrial communication networks.
- Experience with data collection, system diagnostics, or database integration (SQL, OPC UA, MQTT, Ignition, ThingsBoard, or similar).
- Ability to interpret and create detailed electrical schematics.
- Solid troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Experience
- Integration of vision inspection or quality monitoring systems (Cognex, Keyence, etc.).
- Experience with packaging equipment such as fillers, cappers, sealers, or case packers.
- Familiarity with IIoT concepts, SCADA systems, or cloud data integration.
- Basic programming skills (Python, C#, or similar) for automation data or interface applications.
