Job Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Physician Assistant specializing in surgery to join our multidisciplinary healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide high-quality patient care across a variety of surgical settings, assisting surgeons during procedures, managing pre- and post-operative care, and ensuring optimal patient outcomes. Duties

  • Assist surgeons during operative procedures, ensuring adherence to aseptic techniques and safety protocols.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical examinations and medical history reviews relevant to surgical care.
  • Manage pre-operative preparations and post-operative recovery, including wound care, pain management, and monitoring for complications.
  • Prescribe medications within scope of practice, including analgesics, antibiotics, and other necessary treatments following HIPAA regulations and DEA guidelines.
  • Utilize electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner) for accurate documentation of patient encounters, procedures, and clinical data collection.
  • Perform suturing, injection administration and other procedural skills required in surgical settings.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for critical care management.

Requirements

  • Valid Physician Assistant license with current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Demonstrated experience in surgical settings with hospital experience in medical-surgical units or operating rooms.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding systems for accurate documentation and billing.
  • Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks; experience with data management and electronic health records management is preferred.
  • Critical care experience including ICU or emergency room exposure; Level I & II trauma center experience highly desirable.
  • Skills in suturing, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluation, airway management, catheterization procedures, and ventilator use.
  • Familiarity with hospital protocols related to infection control, aseptic technique, drug administration regulations (DEA), and HIPAA compliance.
  • Additional qualifications include experience with clinical research or clinical trials related to surgical or acute care medicine; telehealth experience is a plus.
