Position Summary: The Surgical Assistant Surgical Tech is responsible for assisting the doctor in clinical procedures and in the delivery of required medical services.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare records for the day’s patients and arrange in order of appointment. Prepare chart forms as may be necessary.
2. Maintain general appearance, cleanliness and organization of clinical and office areas.
3. Sterilize instruments and maintain clinical equipment.
4. Take x-rays.
5. Prepare patients for the practice’s services.
6. Conduct patient education activities.
7. Instruct patients regarding preparation for procedures.
8. Take patient histories.
9. Administer selected medications under the supervision of the doctor.
10. Assist the doctor in the conduction of clinical services.
11. Coordinate reference laboratory services.
12. Assist in compliance with OSHA infection control and communication regulations.
13. Maintain safe conditions in patient treatment areas.
14. Perform other duties as may be requested by and coordinated between the Office Administrator and Doctor from time to time, and as the Surgical Assistant may be qualified.
15. Assist in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Position Qualifications: A graduate of medical or dental assisting, surgical technician program or nursing program required. Previous clinical experience required. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and dental and medical terminology is required. Radiology and anesthesia assisting certification preferred. DAANCE certification required by end of second (2nd) anniversary date of hire.

Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including taking medical histories and and assist doctor in performing physical examinations.
- Assist in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols.
- Perform procedures such as X-rays and utilize 3D scanners as needed for patient care.
- Collaborate with dental professionals in areas such as endodontics , periodontics , orthodontics , prosthodontics and general dentistry.
- Maintain aseptic technique during all procedures to ensure patient safety.
- Document patient information accurately, including medical coding for billing purposes.
- Educate patients on treatment plans, preventive care, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Provide support and , assisting during oral surgical procedures as necessary.
Requirements
- Valid Texas Dental Assistant license and certification.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy and general dentistry practices.
- Experience or familiarity with X-ray technology and infection control measures.
- Proficiency in using 3D scanners and understanding facial regions is preferred.
- Ability to apply aseptic techniques in clinical settings.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on patient interaction and education.
- Previous experience in dental assisting is a plus but not mandatory.
