Primary Purpose:

Responsible for planning, documenting, implementing, maintaining, and enforcing the District’s cybersecurity strategy, including technologies, processes, and practices designed to protect networks, devices, programs, and data from cyberattacks, damage, or unauthorized access. Demonstrate technical knowledge of data systems, security procedures, and familiarity with hardware and software to accomplish this task. Responsible for analyzing, modifying, or advising on hardware/software configurations, automated or manual processes, and identifying security improvements to the existing server and network configurations.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, telecommunications, management information systems, or equivalent experience preferred
  • CompTIA Security , CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner, CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), or other relevant cybersecurity certifications preferred

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience administering and supporting email security platforms and services
  • Experience managing and securing next-generation firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet)
  • Experience implementing and administering application control solutions (e.g., AppLocker, Windows Defender Application Control [WDAC], CyberArk Endpoint Privilege Manager [EPM])
  • Knowledge of network micro segmentation and virtualization security technologies (e.g., Nutanix Flow, VMware NSX)
  • Experience administering identity and collaboration platforms, including Active Directory, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365
  • Experience managing web content filtering and student safety platforms (e.g., Linewize, GoGuardian)
  • Experience implementing and administering multi-factor authentication solutions (e.g., Cisco Duo)
  • Experience administering Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions
  • Experience implementing, managing, and tuning Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies and technologies
  • Experience administering cloud security platforms, including Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA)
  • Experience deploying, managing, and responding to Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions
  • Experience utilizing Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms for monitoring, analysis, and incident response
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation to improve operational efficiency and security processes
  • Knowledge of system and server administration, including patch management, backups, disaster recovery, and system restoration
  • Strong understanding of network security concepts, protocols, and cybersecurity best practices

  • Ability to prioritize, manage competing priorities, and execute tasks effectively in a fast-paced, high-demand environment

Experience:

  • One year of practical experience in the field of cybersecurity, end-user devices, servers, and networking security
  • Related experience may be considered

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Network Support & Security

1.     Oversee and manage the District’s overall cybersecurity posture to protect information systems, networks, applications, and data assets.

2.     Develop, implement, and maintain security systems, tools, and processes designed to identify, mitigate, and remediate vulnerabilities, including conducting regular endpoint audits, deploying malware prevention and detection solutions, and implementing system hardening standards.

3.     Manage the District’s cybersecurity operations by monitoring, identifying, and responding to threats affecting Microsoft and other operating systems, platforms, applications, and network environments, including phishing, spam, malware, and other cyber threats.

4.     Collaborate with Technology Services staff to maintain a secure network and server infrastructure, including identifying, testing, and coordinating the deployment of security updates, patches, and remediation measures for all connected systems and endpoints.

5.     Support and administer the District’s Identity and Access Management (IAM) program by conducting regular account audits, removing inactive or expired accounts, monitoring privileged account usage and security group memberships, and ensuring compliance with established security policies, industry standards, and best practices.

6.     Partner with district departments and leadership teams to safeguard sensitive data and strengthen processes used to manage, access, and protect information assets.

7.     Assist with the implementation, management, and ongoing compliance efforts associated with applicable state cybersecurity legislation, including SB 820, HB 3834, and future regulatory requirements.

8.     Assist in the development, implementation, testing, and maintenance of the District’s Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity plans.

9.     Investigate cybersecurity incidents, coordinate response and remediation activities, oversee technical investigations, and provide timely communication and status updates to senior leadership.

10.    Conduct scheduled vulnerability assessments and network security scans to identify, prioritize, and remediate security risks.

11.    Perform penetration testing and security assessments to identify exploitable weaknesses and strengthen the District’s overall security posture.

12.    Conduct authorized reviews of District-owned devices to verify compliance with District policies, including the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), and support investigative efforts when necessary.

13.    Perform scheduled reviews of critical application security configurations, document findings, and recommend corrective actions to improve security controls.

 

Policy, Reports, and Law

14.    Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the area of information management and technology.

15.    Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

 

Other

16.    Participate in professional development, training, and continuing education activities to maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies, cybersecurity trends, and industry best practices.

17.    Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Cybersecurity or Director of Technology Network Services.

18.    Recommend training opportunities, process improvements, and strategic initiatives that enhance the effectiveness, reliability, and quality of technology operations and services.

19.    Evaluate and recommend cost-effective technology solutions, services, and programs that align with district goals, operational needs, and security requirements.

20.    Develop and provide budget recommendations and cost estimates based on documented program requirements, project needs, and long-term technology planning.

21.    Recommend technology refresh cycles, equipment replacement schedules, and district-wide migration strategies based on industry standards, lifecycle management practices, and application requirements.

22.    Respond to after-hours emergencies, critical incidents, and on-call support requests as necessary to maintain system availability and security.

23.    Comply with all district safety policies and procedures.
