Primary Purpose:

The Secondary Science Coordinator will support the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Prosper ISD by providing leadership and expertise in the implementation of the district’s Secondary Science program. The Coordinator will oversee the design, alignment, and articulation of the Secondary Science curriculum and assessments, facilitation of professional learning aligned to the program goals and instructional philosophy, and collaborate with district staff to meet the needs of all students.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant field

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to apply Understanding by Design curriculum framework in curriculum design
  • Extensive expertise in content-area instruction and backward design curriculum approach
  • Ability to work within and provide support to Professional Learning Communities
  • Experience applying adult learning theory and effective professional learning practices
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Experience with data analysis and using data to inform instructional decisions
  • Skilled in interpreting TEKS, state laws, local policy, procedures, and data
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of classroom experience in a Secondary Science setting (5 years preferred)
  • Successful district or campus leadership experience (preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional and Program Management

1.      Work in collaboration with and build capacity of district leaders, campus administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers to implement a high-quality Secondary Science program.

2.      Evaluate and recommend improvement in the purposes, processes, design, materials, and implementation of the Secondary Science program using evaluation instruments grounded in research.

3.      Facilitate the deconstruction of standards based upon content, context, and vertical alignment to develop a Secondary Science curriculum and assessment plan that meets state standards across all courses offered within the program.

4.      Support teachers and teams in the implementation of the district’s guaranteed and viable curriculum using course maps, unit framework documents, and instructional resources.

5.      Collaborate with the instructional coach to create a professional development plan to assist teachers with lesson design that includes effective instruction that is communicated, sequenced, and scaffolded to meet the needs of all learners.

6.      Communicate across and within grade-level and subject area curriculum coordinator teams to ensure proper alignment to district and program goals.

7.      Collaborate with various district departments (i.e. Advanced Academics, Special Education, Language Programs etc.) in regards to the academic success and participation of students in Secondary Science courses.

8.      Create conditions that foster trusting relationships conducive to Professional Learning Communities.

9.      Establish and maintain a professional relationship with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders.

 

Professional Growth and Development

10.     Commit to continued professional learning.

11.     Stay abreast of current research and best instructional practices.

12.     Participate in ongoing collaboration between Curriculum and Instruction and other departments.

13.     Attend and participate in meetings and serve on committees as required.

 

Budget and Inventory

14.     Contribute to the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.

15.     Participate in grant-writing activities to obtain program funding.

 

Other

16.     Continually learn and build personal and professional capacity.

17.     Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy and inform staff regarding developments at the local, state and federal levels that impact the program.

18.     Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.
