This position is for a Middle School Math Specialist, beginning August 2026. The Math Specialist reports to the Middle School Division Head and works in close collaboration with the middle school math department. This is a new role within an evolving departmental structure, and the successful candidate will play an active role in helping to shape and refine the position over time.
The Middle School Math Specialist does not serve as a lead classroom teacher and is not responsible for teaching a standalone math class. Instead, the role is collaborative and support-focused, providing instructional, curricular, and student-centered support to lead teachers and students across the middle school math program. This is an 80% (part-time) teaching position.

Responsibilities Of Position
Instructional & Curriculum Partnership
- Support the development and refinement of differentiated curricular materials, including extensions for students ready for a deeper challenge and scaffolds for students who need additional support.
- Work closely with middle school math teachers to strengthen curriculum coherence, pacing, and vertical alignment across grades 5–8 through discussion
- Help identify gaps, redundancies, or misalignments in curriculum and propose practical, research-based adjustments.
- Serve as a thought partner to math teachers around lesson design, assessment practices, and responsive instruction.
- Collaborate with the Division Head and math department to continue shaping and refining the role in response to student needs, departmental goals, and evolving program structures.
- Identify effective structures for supporting students and teachers, including piloting new approaches to intervention or instructional support.
- Potentially support the vertical alignment of math programs between campuses, smoothing the transition from 4th to 5th grade.
- Research new math curricula, math pedagogies, and emergent topics in the math landscape and continue share back to the math department as a part of ongoing assessment of the math program
- Work directly with students who need the most academic support in mathematics through small-group or individualized instruction.
- Monitor student progress of the most outlying students over time and adjust support strategies in collaboration with lead math teachers, learning specialists, and the Division Head.
- Strong background in mathematics education, with demonstrated success supporting middle school learners
- Experience with curriculum development and vertical alignment across multiple grade levels
- Demonstrated ability to design and support differentiated instruction for a wide range of learners, including both remediation and extension
- Experience working directly with students who need targeted academic support through small-group or individualized instruction
- Strong understanding of best practices in middle school teaching and learning
- Ability to collaborate closely with teachers as a thought partner around lesson design, assessment, and instructional strategy
- Demonstrated ability to analyze student data and use it to inform instructional decisions and intervention planning
- Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environment that supports a growth mindset
- Knowledge of identity-safe, anti-bias educational practices and ability to work effectively within diverse communities
- Appreciation for the role of social-emotional learning in academic growth and interest in integrating SEL into instructional support
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to partner with families when appropriate
- Organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or professional coursework or certification appropriate to the responsibilities of the position
- Master’s degree in education, or relevant coursework or certification indicating advanced knowledge in areas related to the responsibilities of the job
- Familiarity with Illustrative Mathematics curriculum, Amplify Desmos curriculum, Bridges Math curriculum
- Participation on committees as needed and appropriate
- Ancillary duties include responsibilities that are part of middle school life, e.g., team and staff meetings, etc.
