What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional - Special Education (Middle School) position at Prospect Ridge Academy?
- Work with individual students or small groups of students identified as needing additional support
- Assist in reinforcing learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff
- Model and foster independent thinking skills, creative problem solving and abstract reasoning
- Show empathy and understanding of students and hold students accountable
- Coordinate and consult with both the special education and regular education teacher and other special service providers regarding students needs
- Communicate consistently and effectively with students, parents and colleagues
- Assist in problem-solving and resolution of problems that might arise with students
- Work under the direction of the Special Education Teacher in alignment with the services identified on a student's IEP
- Behavioral support
- Physical transfer support (training provided)
- When requested, attend IEP annual or tri-annual meetings as well as staff meetings.
- Maintain student confidentiality, following state regulations and district protocols around confidentiality.
- For younger aged students or students with intensive needs - Assist students with personal care including diapering, toilet training, feeding, self-care, hand washing, and delegated nursing and health care duties.
- Follow policies established by the Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors, Adams 12 School District, and Colorado State mandated school guidelines, except where PRA has received waivers
- Complete other duties as assigned
- Minimum of an High School Diploma or equivalent, Associate degree preferred
- Experience in a children in a school setting preferred
- Experience working with special populations preferred
- Interest in children and education
- Commitment to PRA approved curriculum
- The ability to physically demonstrate the skills necessary for the sport being coached.
- The employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, grasp, and perform light lifting.

This position reports to the School Principal.
Working Conditions
Work is regularly performed inside and outside with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in all weather conditions and includes exposure to moderate and sometimes loud noise. This is a highly public position that includes contact with students, staff, Administrators, Prospect Ridge Academy Board of Directors and parents. Occasionally, work may consist of ten (10) plus-hour days with weekend work as needed.
SALARY:
Starting hiring range: $20.42 - $25.53 per hour

Prospect Ridge Academy offers a comprehensive total compensation package for employees working 0.75 FTE or greater, including:
Employees working less than 0.75 FTE are eligible for PERA retirement contributions and paid holidays.
