Position Summary

The Grounds & Facility Maintenance Assistant performs a wide range of seasonal groundskeeping, athletic turf maintenance, facility repairs, and event support at Prospect Meadows. This role ensures complex grounds, field surfaces, landscaping, equipment, and structures remain safe, functional, and visually appealing.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Turf & Grounds Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance of natural athletic turf, synthetic surfaces, and general complex grounds, including mowing, string trimming, edging, seeding, fertilizing, clearing brush/debris, and ball field preparation.
• Horticulture Care: Maintain trees, shrubs, perennial and annual flower beds, and native habitats through planting, weeding, watering, mulching, deadheading, and pruning.
• Facility & Equipment Upkeep: Clean, maintain, and perform minor mechanical repairs on hand tools, power equipment, and light operational machinery. Monitor equipment inventory, utilization, and replacement cycles. Keep shop areas, storage spaces, and complex structures clean, organized, and functional.
• Irrigation & Infrastructure: Assist with routine audits and repairs of irrigation systems. Oversee general upkeep of complex structures, exterior signage, and banners.
• Sanitation & Janitorial: Collect and dispose of trash and debris throughout the facility. Perform routine complex janitorial and custodial responsibilities.
• Event & Operations Support: Handle setup and teardown for special events, tournament operations, and rental groups. Assist user groups with complex activities and guest needs.
• Safety & Compliance: Monitor facility conditions and report damaged equipment, safety hazards, mechanical failures, or vandalism. Maintain compliance with required safety training and operational record-keeping.
• General: Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• License: Must possess and maintain a valid State of Iowa driver's license.
• Pre-Employment: Must successfully pass a background check prior to employment.
• Instructions & Communication: Ability to read, understand, and follow written and oral instructions, policy guidelines, and procedures. Strong clear communication skills in both written and spoken English.
• Problem Solving & Adaptability: Self-motivated, energetic, and detail-oriented with the ability to exercise independent judgment, multitask, and problem-solve effectively without direct supervision.
• Teamwork & Professionalism: Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Ability to welcome, value, and respect individuals of all backgrounds.

Physical Demands & Environmental Conditions

• Exertion Level: Medium to Heavy Work. Ability to exert up to 50–150 lbs of force occasionally (with assistance); up to 20 lbs frequently; and up to 10 lbs constantly to move objects.
• Physical Movement: Requires constant (67–100%) standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping. Occasional (10–33%) kneeling and crawling.
• Work Environment: Primary duties occur outdoors (34–66%) subject to adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat (>90°F) and extreme cold (<32°F). High tolerance for working in high-tempo atmospheres with frequent interruptions.
• Potential Hazards: Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, elevated work up to 25 feet, noise, vibration, outdoor allergens, atmospheric conditions (fumes, dust, mists, gas), and chemical or bio-hazardous waste.
