Summary:
The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing swim instruction to participants of varying ages while ensuring a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment. This position emphasizes swimmer safety, skill development, and adherence to policies and aquatic safety standards.
Work Schedule:
This is a seasonal, part-time position. Work schedules vary based on program needs and may include weekdays, evenings and weekends.

- The salary range for this position is $16.00 - $21.87 per hour. Starting pay DOQ and will not exceed the midpoint of the range
Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative but not all-inclusive:
- Provide swim instruction in accordance with established swim lesson levels and curriculum.
- Teach swim lessons to children of varying ages and skill levels, including small group and individual instruction.
- Begin and end classes on time; remain after class as needed to answer children or parent questions and clean up supplies.
- Educate children on proper swimming techniques and promote water safety at all times.
- Maintain accurate and legible attendance records, progress reports, and certificates.
- Ensure all teaching areas are free of hazards, and that equipment and materials are returned to designated storage locations.
- Identify, remove, and report hazards or unsafe conditions to Recreation Supervisor immediately.
- Communicate positively and professionally with parents/guardians regarding swim lesson progress and skill development.
- Respond to accident or emergency situations in accordance with established accident/incident protocols.
- Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and high standard of customer service.
- Wear the proper uniform while on duty.
- Learn, follow, and perform assigned roles within the Aquatic Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Set up extra pool furniture and supplies as needed.
- Participate in pool activities as required.
- Perform other related aquatic duties as assigned by the Pool Manager or Recreation Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 15 years. Valid work permit is required, if under 16 years.
- Prior experience as a swimmer (recreational or competitive) or swim lesson instructor preferred.
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification is required prior to the first swim lesson.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to lead small group and individual swim lessons.
- Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with participants, parents, and coworkers.
- Ability to complete and maintain swim lesson paperwork accurately.
- Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Strong safety awareness, judgment, and attention to detail.
Physical, Cognitive and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move for extended periods of time.
- Ability to respond quickly and accurately in emergency situations, including first aid or CPR.
- Ability to function effectively in potentially stressful situations.
- Ability to work in a summer climate with exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Cognitive ability to recognize potential life-threatening conditions and apply emergency procedures appropriately.
