Job Description
Job Overview:
Represents Isabella County and the State of Michigan in criminal felony cases primarily in the Isabella County Trial Court. Makes criminal charging decisions, issues criminal complaints, and represents the County/State of Michigan in Court from the beginning of the case, until a trial occurs, or sentencing. Prepares for trial, negotiates cases for pleas, prepares legal motions, answers defense motions and advises law enforcement of legal issues. Supervision of Senior and Assistant Prosecutors
Responsibilities and Duties:
Reviews, charges and prosecutes criminal felony cases. Reviews case files, prepares for hearings and plea resolutions, including scoring of sentencing guidelines. Drafts, files and argues motions/briefs in the Isabella County Trial Court, Michigan Court of Appeals, and Michigan Supreme Court. Prepares and appears for settlement conferences, preliminary examinations, pleas and sentencing and post-sentencing motions. Appears for probation violations to represent the MDOC.
Provides back up coverage for misdemeanor cases and supervision/mentoring of assistant prosecutors. Provides guidance and support to law enforcement on legal issues and search warrants. Identifies victims and works with the Victim Advocates to provide victim right services.
List of Responsibilities and Duties:
- Review, charge and prosecute felony crimes
- Prepare and appear for hearings, motions, pleas, sentencing and post-sentencing case procedures
- Supervise and provide support to assistant prosecutors
- Provide guidance and support to law enforcement and review search warrants
- Identifies victims and works with Victim advocates to provide support and services during a criminal case
- Conducts jury trials on felony cases, probation violations and other matters in criminal cases
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctorate.
Three to five years of experience in a prosecutor's office and handling felony cases.
Licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan. Member in good standing with the Michigan State Bar.
Additional Qualifications:
Supervision or management experience.
Valid Michigan Driver's license
