Position Summary

Property & Environmental Management, Inc. is seeking a full-time Safety Superintendent, Category I, for a complex transportation construction project in Washington, DC.

This position is dedicated exclusively to site safety and is responsible for implementing the project safety program, overseeing contractor and subcontractor compliance, conducting inspections and training, and maintaining required safety documentation. The selected candidate will be subject to owner interview and approval.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-time safety oversight for construction operations.
  • Implement and maintain the project safety plan.
  • Prepare and review AHAs, JHAs, inspection reports, training records, and incident documentation.
  • Conduct site inspections and enforce OSHA and project requirements.
  • Exercise stop-work authority when unsafe conditions are identified.
  • Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and task-specific training.
  • Investigate incidents and verify corrective actions.
  • Coordinate safety requirements with project management, subcontractors, inspectors, and owner representatives.
  • Maintain required safety coverage for assigned shifts.
  • Support industrial hygiene monitoring and exposure-control activities as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience as a Construction Safety Superintendent, Senior Safety Manager, or equivalent.
  • Extensive heavy-construction safety experience.
  • At least five years of transportation construction safety experience under active operating conditions.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety training completed through an OSHA-authorized classroom provider.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and Bloodborne Pathogens certifications.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR Parts 1926 and 1910.
  • Experience preparing safety plans, AHAs, JHAs, incident reports, and corrective-action documentation.
  • Ability to work full-time on site in Washington, DC, including nights or weekends when required.
  • Ability to meet project background screening, badging, and site-access requirements.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in safety, construction management, engineering, or a related field.
  • Active Certified Safety Professional designation.
  • WMATA, Metrorail, commuter rail, subway, airport, highway, bridge, or tunnel experience.
  • OSHA 500 or OSHA 510 training.
  • Experience working on occupied or operational construction sites.

Candidates without a CSP may be considered if they have at least 10 years of documented Safety Superintendent experience and otherwise meet the project requirements.
