Role Description The Liability Claims Specialist is a full-time, remote role responsible for managing liability claims from initial report through resolution. Day-to-day work includes reviewing claim details, gathering documentation, interviewing involved parties, and evaluating coverage under Proper Insurance® policies. The specialist will analyze liability exposure, determine appropriate reserves, coordinate with internal teams and external partners such as adjusters and legal counsel, and recommend fair claim settlements. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate claim records, communicating regularly with policyholders to provide updates, and ensuring compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. The role also involves identifying claim trends, contributing to process improvements, and supporting a positive, service-focused experience for all stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Experience in liability claims handling, insurance claims adjustment, or related property and casualty insurance roles.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills, including the ability to review policy language, evaluate evidence, and assess liability exposure.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills for interacting with policyholders, partners, and internal teams.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency in managing multiple claims simultaneously in a remote environment.
- Comfort using claims management systems and common business software tools (e.g., CRM platforms, Microsoft Office or similar).
- Knowledge of commercial homeowners or vacation rental insurance, or willingness to quickly develop expertise in this niche coverage.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in claim decisions.
- Previous experience in insurance, risk management, or legal support is beneficial; a relevant associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
