Overview
The Business Loan Portfolio Manager is responsible for small business commercial loan portfolio management including ensuring updated financial information is on file, financial analysis, credit and document file quality, and monitoring and reporting ongoing credit metrics. Additionally, this role is responsible for underwriting and preparing for approval new and/or extension of commercial loan requests by analyzing financial statements, cash flows, and credit worthiness of small business members. The Business Loan Portfolio Manager also plays a crucial role in balancing risk and profitability for the Credit Union’s lending activities by monitoring delinquencies and watchlist credits
Roles and Responsibilities
- Collecting updated borrower financial information in accordance with periodic reporting requirements and completing scheduled loan reviews.
- Managing a portfolio of small business clients including monitoring loan covenants
- Underwriting existing credits including Annual reviews , renewals, and modifications, including interest rate reductions, collateral releases, change in loan terms, guarantor releases and collateral substitutions for MBL portfolio and as assigned by CCO.
- Assist in business loan processing, documentation, closing and/or collection/workout actions including with SBA 7a guaranteed loans. Experience with SBA 7a lending is strongly preferred.
- Process Annual Reviews and Renewals and assess asset quality, including performance against original underwriting expectations.
- Draft credit memos for any substantial changes in a borrower's financial stability, debt service coverage and ownership structure in connection with a risk rating downgrade.
- Spreading, analyzing, and reviewing financial statements and/or tax returns, income sources, and collateral coverage of borrowers including corporations, partnerships, sole proprietors, and individuals while adhering to the Credit Union’s policies and procedures.
- Assisting in and/or preparing loan presentation write-ups for management and/or loan committee approvals.
- Manage the Available for Sale Commercial Loan Process by preparing credit memos with an executive summary, salient facts as well as loan structure and/or terms for a potential buyer to review for purchase of the Credit Union’s originated loans to manage liquidity and ensure compliance with member business loan cap.
- Ensuring that loans and other assets are appropriately, and timely risk rated in accordance with the Credit Union’s loan policy.
- Assist in loan collection and workout activities as needed.
· Additional duties as assigned in support of credit union goals and objectives.

- Bachelor’s degree is preferred, or equivalent business experience is required.
- Minimum of three (3) or more years of commercial portfolio management and/or commercial lending experience at a credit union or community bank with an emphasis on small business and real estate business/commercial lending. Familiarity with commercial loan processing, loan collection & workout activities and SBA 7a loan process and documentation.
- Formal credit training is preferred.
- Strong organizational, and time management skills, and leadership qualities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to understand accounting, including financial statement and/or tax return spreads, cash flows, and credit analysis.
- Ability to define problems, proactively identify and articulate risks, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to be communicated to management.
- Commercial Banking Knowledge, including an in-depth understanding of commercial banking practices, lending products, and industry regulations.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in relevant software and tools used for financial analysis, portfolio management, and risk assessment (Microsoft Excel & Word required and NCino strongly preferred)
Decision-Making and Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills to make sound lending decisions, anticipate market trends, and provide recommendations based on thorough analysis.
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
