Public Affairs + Government Relations Consultants

Proof Strategies
Washington, DC Full Time
POSTED ON 6/27/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 12/21/2026

Position Summary

At Proof Strategies, we believe trust is earned, and we work every day to help our clients do just that.

As a right-sized agency, we partner with mission-driven government agencies, cause-based nonprofits, advocacy organizations, and growing companies with an expanding U.S. footprint. As the Washington, D.C. office of one of North America's leading independent communications consultancies, we combine the capabilities of a larger firm with the responsiveness, flexibility, and direct access of a boutique team.

As our Washington office continues to grow, we're always interested in connecting with talented public affairs, government relations, stakeholder engagement, and policy professionals across a range of experience levels, from Account Executives to Senior Directors. We welcome candidates with approximately 2-10 years of experience depending on background, expertise, and specialization.

Our team supports a wide range of public affairs and government relations initiatives, including stakeholder mapping and engagement; legislative, regulatory, and policy monitoring; coalition and partnership development; strategic intelligence gathering; federal, state, and local government engagement; and helping organizations navigate complex policy, reputational, and stakeholder challenges.

We are looking for people who are collaborative, flexible, and motivated by growth. The ideal candidates are comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicating directly with clients, adapting quickly, and operating thoughtfully in politically sensitive or fast-moving environments. Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, professionalism, and a willingness to learn are just as important to us as technical communications skills.

Good humor is a must! Only candidates residing in the greater Washington, D.C. area will be considered.

What You Might Work On

  • Stakeholder mapping, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building initiatives involving government officials, advocacy organizations, industry groups, community leaders, and strategic partners
  • Legislative, regulatory, and policy monitoring across federal, state, and local government landscapes
  • Research, intelligence gathering, and analysis to identify emerging risks, opportunities, stakeholder dynamics, and policy developments
  • Public affairs strategies supporting major policy initiatives, government programs, public education campaigns, and organizational priorities
  • Government relations activities, including meeting preparation, briefing materials, stakeholder outreach, and engagement strategies
  • Coalition building, partnership development, and third-party engagement initiatives
  • Issues management and reputational risk assessment related to public policy, government actions, and stakeholder concerns
  • Drafting and editing briefing documents, stakeholder materials, presentations, policy summaries, talking points, reports, and strategic recommendations
  • Event strategy and coordination, including Capitol Hill events, stakeholder convenings, roundtables, listening sessions, conferences, and public-facing engagements
  • Providing strategic counsel to senior leaders navigating government, policy, and stakeholder environments
  • Supporting new business efforts, including research, proposal development, and pitch materials
  • Helping contribute to a growing office environment where people are encouraged to take initiative and grow beyond rigid role definitions

What You Bring

  • Approximately 2-10 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, stakeholder engagement, advocacy, policy, legislative affairs, political consulting, strategic communications, or related fields
  • Agency, government, campaign, trade association, advocacy, or legislative experience is a plus, but not required
  • Comfort communicating directly with clients and managing multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to operate thoughtfully in politically sensitive, fast-moving, or high-visibility environments while exercising sound judgment and professionalism
  • Experience working with government agencies, nonprofits, advocacy organizations, trade associations, energy, healthcare, technology, or policy-focused organizations is a plus
  • Familiarity with stakeholder intelligence, legislative tracking, CRM, research, or public affairs platforms such as Leadership Connect, FiscalNote, Quorum, Bloomberg Government, Salesforce, or similar tools is preferred
  • Interest in how emerging technologies and AI-supported workflows can improve research, strategic insight, stakeholder analysis, and public affairs execution
  • Strong writing, editing, presentation, research, and interpersonal communication skills

Our Work Culture

As a growing office, we value people who are willing to raise their hand, take ownership, contribute ideas, and step outside traditional job descriptions when opportunities arise. Some of the best professional growth happens when you're trusted with challenges you haven't tackled before.

We work hard, support one another, and genuinely enjoy what we do. While our work often involves serious issues and high-profile organizations, we think a sense of humor goes a long way.

Our team works in a hybrid environment, with two days per week in our office near Gallery Place-Chinatown and three days remotely.
