POSITION OVERVIEW:   As a Level II Maintenance Service Engineer/Operator at Proton Cancer Treatment Centers, you will play a vital role in ensuring the optimal operation and maintenance of complex medical equipment used in the treatment of cancer patients. Building upon your previous experience and knowledge, you will take on more advanced responsibilities and contribute to the continuous improvement of our maintenance processes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


1.        Advanced Equipment Maintenance: Perform advanced maintenance, inspections, and calibrations on the proton therapy equipment, demonstrating deep understanding and proficiency with the cyclotron, gantry system, PPU, and imaging devices. Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques to address complex issues efficiently.

 

2.        Technical Mentorship:  Serve as a technical mentor within the maintenance team, providing guidance to Level 1 Engineers/Operators. Take the lead on resolving escalated technical issues and collaborate with other departments to implement effective solutions.


3.        Quality Assurance Excellence: Lead quality assurance initiatives, developing and implementing advanced maintenance and testing protocols to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of proton therapy. Drive compliance with regulatory standards and good maintenance practices. Participate in audits and inspections as required.


4.        Enhanced Patient Safety: Champion initiatives to enhance patient safety during treatment, including the development and implementation of additional safety protocols. Act as a liaison between the maintenance team and the clinical staff to ensure seamless coordination and communication.


5.        Risk Management: Champion safe workplace protocols including radioactive materials handling, scaffolding safety, electrical hazard and arc flash safety. Create and recommend safety and efficiency improvements to established work practices.


6.        Technology Integration: Take the lead on the integration of new equipment and software upgrades, overseeing the installation and commissioning process. Stay abreast of emerging technologies in proton therapy and contribute to strategic planning for technology adoption.


7.        Advanced Documentation: Maintain comprehensive service records and documentation, leveraging advanced data analysis techniques to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Prepare detailed documentation on maintenance activities and equipment performance for management review.


8.        Inventory Optimization: Optimize spare parts inventory management processes, implementing advanced forecasting techniques to ensure the availability of critical components while minimizing inventory holding costs.


9.        Regulatory Expertise:  Serve as a subject matter expert on industry regulations, safety standards, and quality assurance requirements. Lead efforts to ensure compliance with FDA and ISO Quality System Regulations for Medical Devices.


10.      Emergency Response: Take a meaningful role in emergency response situations, coordinating the efforts of the maintenance team to maintain continuous service availability and minimize disruptions to patient care.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS: 

 

Education/Experience/Skills

 

·        Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Physics with 3 years of related experience in Engineering or Physics discipline, or an Associate's degree with 5 years of relevant experience.

·        Advanced Electrical and Mechanical skills, with demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical systems, including several of robotic positioning, vacuum systems, cyclotrons, superconducting magnets, motor controllers,  PLC controllers, power distribution, and high voltage circuits.

·        Proven experience installing, servicing, and maintaining complex medical devices, with a focus on one or more of patient positioning, imaging, ion beam delivery, medical device software and controls, vacuum systems, and radiation safety controls.

·        Previous experience with CT Imaging or other medical imaging technologies preferred.

·        Proven experience maintaining electro-mechanical systems with high voltage and current power supplies, electrical control circuits, and PLC controls.

·        Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.

·        Strong documentation skills, with a track record of maintaining detailed logs and records of maintenance activities and repair procedures.

·        Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences is preferred.

·        Thorough knowledge of FDA and ISO Quality System Regulations for Medical Devices is preferred.

·        Proficiency in advanced Windows Services, Microsoft file systems, networking protocols, and DICOM configuration preferred.

Work Environment / Travel


·        Strict adherence to safety rules and regulations at all times including following SOPs, wearing safety glasses, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes and full body safety harnesses.

·        The position requires frequent work in an area with exposure to a high magnetic field. The level of magnetic field likely poses a safety risk for workers with pacemakers, defribrillators, and similar implanted devices.

·        Working in building construction and clinical environments

·        Occasionally working in high radiation fields

·        Working in a high tempo stressful environment

·        Physical activities including standing, walking, sitting and lifting.

·        Working on scaffolding may be required

·        Candidate must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

·        May be required to work extended hours during the day or night

·        Shift work will be required depending on installation or patient schedules

·        Required to Travel 5 – 10% annually
