Position Summary:
The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, high-quality meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of residents in accordance with facility standards and regulatory requirements. The Cook plays a key role in supporting the health and well-being of residents by ensuring safe food handling and maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare meals and snacks in accordance with planned menus and resident dietary needs, including modified diets (e.g., pureed, low-sodium, diabetic).
Ensure proper portion control, food presentation, and meal temperature.
Follow standardized recipes and adjust as necessary for resident preferences or special diets.
Monitor food supplies and assist with inventory control, receiving deliveries, and proper storage.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, work areas, and food preparation surfaces, following infection control and safety procedures.
Label and date all food items and dispose of expired or spoiled products according to policy.
Collaborate with the Dietary Manager and other dietary staff to support meal service operations.
Adhere to all federal, state, and local health department regulations as well as facility policies.
Report equipment malfunctions or food safety concerns promptly.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Minimum 1 year of experience as a cook in a healthcare, senior living, or institutional kitchen setting preferred.
Knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and special dietary requirements.
Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English.
ServeSafe or food handler certification (or willingness to obtain within a specified time).
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
Work Environment:
Commercial kitchen environment within a skilled nursing facility.
Exposure to hot surfaces, cleaning chemicals, and temperature variations.
Frequent interaction with residents, dietary team members, and nursing staff.
