Program Description:
Care Corps is a newly launched, sector-based training that provides a pathway for New Yorkers interested in pursuing a career in the behavioral health nursing support workforce. Since 2000, Project Renewal has helped nearly 5,000 New Yorkers find and retain employment, achieve economic security, lead more fulfilling lives, and positively contribute to their communities. We enroll over 600 adults each year who have significant barriers to employment including those with histories of homelessness, substance use, underemployment, mental health diagnoses, and criminal justice involvement. Our comprehensive approach allows us to work individually with each client to minimize barriers to employment and prepare them for the world of work.
Overall Responsibilities:
The Care Corps Trainer & Engagement Specialist plays a key role in delivering engaging and inclusive training experience for participants in the Care Corps program. This position is responsible for facilitating workshops during cohort-based training sessions, supporting participant engagement and retention through ongoing individualized or group support, and contributing to curriculum development and program enrichment between training cycles. The ideal candidate brings strong facilitation skills, a passion for adult learning, and a commitment to supporting individuals with barriers to employment. This role requires the ability to proactively engage clients, build trust, and sustain motivation across different phases of the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Care Corps, and working closely with the program coordinator, duties include, but are not limited to:
Trainer (40%):
Facilitate in-person skills training workshops on job readiness, communication, professionalism, and other relevant topics for roles in healthcare settings
Adapt facilitation style and materials to accommodate various learning styles and participant needs
Collaborate with Care Corps team to develop and implement new workshops as needed by new contracts, employers and clients
Provide individualized coaching and skill-building support on job readiness such as resume writing, mock interviews, professional communication
Support learners who need additional help with confidence, comprehension, or workplace expectations
Engagement Specialist (40%)
Build strong, supportive relationships with program participants from enrollment to job placement
Proactively conduct regular check-ins with participants during and after training to monitor attendance, engagement, and progress, and work collaboratively with program staff to address any emerging performance or participation challenges.
Engage graduates in follow-up programming and job search readiness activities
Program Development and Administrative (20%)
Document attendance, engagement, and client progress in Salesforce and other systems required by funding sources
Review and enhance curriculum content and instructional materials between training cycles
Support development and facilitation of engagement activities such as alumni events or peer-led sessions
Collaborate with the Coordinator to ensure a seamless transition from training to job placement
Support program recruitment events or other activities as needed
Assist with other tasks based on program need
Qualifications:
Minimum 1–2 years of experience facilitating workshops or training adult learners, ideally in workforce development, education or human services sectors.
Strong group facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse learners and manage classroom dynamics.
Proven ability to proactively engage clients and maintain strong relationships throughout program participation, including during periods of low motivation or barriers to participation
Experience working in a performance-based environment with outcome goals
Experience working with vulnerable populations, including individuals who have experienced homelessness, substance use, mental health challenges, or justice system involvement
Experience using Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Teams), and CRM systems like Salesforce
Highly organized, dependable, and adaptable to the needs of a fast-paced program environment
