Community Engagement Coach

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The AmeriCorps Community Engagement Coach will work with young people, ages 16-24, who are enrolled in Project YouthBuild to plan, coordinate and implement community 3-hour AmeriCorps impact/volunteer service projects each morning and/or afternoon. This position requires an enthusiastic and patient person with outstanding motivational and interpersonal communication skills. The AmeriCorps Community Engagement Coach will coordinate with all Project YouthBuild staff in a holistic approach to help ensure each young person’s success in the program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop four 30-minute lesson/activity plans each week for daily morning meeting
• Contact local governmental or non-profit entities to develop impact projects
• Develop 7 to 8 three-hour lesson/activity plans each week for morning and afternoon impact projects
• Maintain impact schedule and document on organization calendar
• Transport 6-12 young people to impact project site
• Manage Project YouthBuild students and work alongside students at volunteer host sites
• Plan and conduct reflection exercise for the end of each impact project
• Develop contingency plans for instances that scheduled project is cancelled due to inclement weather or circumstances out of our control
• Foster leadership and employability skills while on site at impact projects
• Ensure data is entered into required MIS programs in an accurate and timely manner
• Schedule, coordinate and lead a monthly FarmShare free food distribution event
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree or AA degree; 1 years’ experience working with youth or 4 years’ experience working with youth
• Experience developing and implementing lesson/activity plans
• Must have deep respect for the ideas and intelligence of young adults; strong commitment to helping young people succeed in an innovative training program, to reorient their lives, nurture this leadership skills and empower them to make a difference in their community
• Ability to relate sensitively to a multiracial and multicultural group of young people
• Ability to team teach and work as part of a team
• Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
• Skilled in computer usage and data entry
• Strong organizational and planning skills
• Valid driver’s license; Ability to drive and operate 15 passenger van
• Ability to use basic hand tools and light power equipment, trades knowledge a plus
• Ability to work outdoors

Pay: $42,500.00 per year
