About Project Sankofa
Project Sankofa is a Black woman-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of African American students from middle school through early professional careers. Our signature program, the African American Scholars Project (AASP), provides crucial social and emotional support, college readiness, and community development for middle and high school students in suburban and racially isolated communities.
We're looking for an energetic and driven AASP Facilitator to help us deliver our programming. If you're passionate about empowering young people and comfortable leading workshops, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact.
The Role: As an AASP Facilitator you will play a key part in implementing our core programming, including:
- Workshop Series
- College & Career Readiness
- Field Trips
- Family Programming
You will work collaboratively and independently in a hybrid setting (in-person and virtual), with in-person work taking place at SEED School of Los Angeles County and other South Los Angeles schools we identify.
This is a contract position from through May 2027, requiring a maximum of 5-10 hours per week, including some Saturdays. You will report directly to the Project Sankofa Program Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Programming & Community Development
- Lead and support in-person and virtual workshops for middle and/or high school students.
- Assist with the development of engaging curriculum and community-building activities (e.g. community circles and family nights)
- Build meaningful relationships with students and their families to foster a supportive and inclusive community.
- Co-develop and implement all AASP events, including field trips and family engagement nights.
Administrative Support
- Collect student attendance, data, testimonials, and content for our marketing and social media efforts.
- Participate in weekly team meetings and training sessions.
- Lead outreach and communication with students and families.
- Complete workshop feedback forms (daily or weekly depending on data being gathered) and other assigned administrative tasks (e.g., emails, data entry, phone calls).
Who You Are
You are a motivated individual with a passion for working with youth. You're a confident leader, a strong communicator, and a team player.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Leadership experience with middle and/or high school students.
- Comfortable working in a team environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Available to work up to 10 hours per week, including some Saturdays.
- Reliable transportation to travel throughout your specified area.
- Dependable technology, including a laptop and internet access.
Compensation
This is a contract position with a pay rate of $25.00 per hour.
