Job Title: Sexual Assault Victims’ Advocate

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate direct advocacy services to primary and secondary victims of sexual assault. Provide education and expertise to victims, partners and the community.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Psychology, or related field required. One year of experience in related work required, three or more preferred. Must pass a fingerprint and background check, no exceptions. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Pay Range: $20-22/hour, commensurate with experience. Benefits included.

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating services necessary to assure that the physical and emotional needs of adult and child sexual assault victims are met with compassion and competency. Services may take place in the community, Project Safe’s public office or shelter, law enforcement office or other agency office as requested by the victim. These actions include linkage with appropriate components of the services system; supportive advocacy including accompaniment to medical, police, and other social service providers; court advocacy; public outreach; cooperation with area service providers; and maintaining accurate contact information for sexual assault clients and service providers.
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of the impact of sexual abuse/assault on victims – physically, psychologically, mentally, etc.
- Knowledge about the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques for working with victims of violence.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to agency services of social services offered in the service area and of required record-keeping procedures that apply to service documentation.
- Skills in advocacy, public speaking oral and written communication, teaching, generating public support and cooperation.
- Skills in collaboration with various partners across two counties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Being in a stationary position for extended periods, which includes driving long distances to meet with clients.
- Occasionally lifting donations or client items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Being accessible for on-call rotation, which includes overnight and weekend shifts.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine and computer printer.
- The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand, specifically in crisis situations. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Able to manage and prioritize one's own workload with minimal supervision.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND TASKS:
- Provide services including but not limited to: advocacy surrounding services related to the assault; education and support during the recovery process; transportation and accompaniment to assault related services; individual assessment; service planning; assure timely access to and effective use of services; linkage with requisite services; and monitoring service delivery.
- Attend to the needs of sexual assault victims presenting at E.R., Advocacy Center, Shelter, Child Advocacy Center of Central Oklahoma (CACCO), area adult SANE Office, or Police Departments.
- Advocate on behalf of victims of sexual assault within the community, offering presentations and outreach activities throughout the service area.
- Maintain accurate client records and grant funding paperwork.
- Ensure the protection of client’s rights in the community.
- Provide non-therapeutic advocacy to sexual assault clients.
- Facilitate referral to Counselor for therapy as requested or deemed necessary.
- Work directly with partnering agencies to maintain effective service delivery and coordinate with potential partners to increase services available.
- Ensure continuous availability of appropriate forms of assistance.
- Assist sexual assault clients in the role of court advocate, cooperating with the District Attorney’s Office.
- Collaborate and participate in discussions at quarterly SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) meetings.
- Facilitate case review with SANE RN, DA, and law enforcement as necessary for prosecution.
- Input data as required or coordinate with Program Coordinator and Operations Manager to ensure proper documentation of data/statistics is maintained.
- Provide community outreach regarding Sexual Assault Services available.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and training.
- Prepare a monthly report summarizing activities.
- Attend specialized training as requested by Executive Director.
- Any additional duties as needed by clients and approved by Executive Director.
