Job Title: Driver / Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Department: Day Program
Reports To: Day Program Administrator
Location: Washington, DC & Silver Spring, MD
Status: Full-Time / Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Driver/DSP supports the mission of Project ReDirect, Inc. by safely transporting program participants to and from the day program and community activities, while also assisting in providing direct care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position plays a key role in promoting community integration, engagement, and independence for the individuals served.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Transportation
- Safely operate agency vehicles to transport participants between residences, day program sites, and community outings.
- Conduct daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections, maintaining safety and cleanliness standards.
- Ensure all transportation logs, mileage sheets, and maintenance records are completed accurately and submitted timely.
- Report accidents, incidents, or maintenance needs immediately to the supervisor.
- Follow all local, state, and federal driving regulations as well as agency policies.
Direct Support
- Assist participants with personal care needs, mobility, and daily activities as required.
- Support participants in achieving goals outlined in their Individual Support Plans (ISPs).
- Engage individuals in skill-building, social, recreational, and community activities.
- Promote dignity, independence, and community inclusion at all times.
- Document participant attendance, behavior, and progress in compliance with agency and regulatory standards.
- Respond appropriately to behavioral or medical emergencies following established protocols.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and driving record review.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist individuals with mobility as needed.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends for community events.
