About the Role
Project Reality is seeking a Part-Time Medical Director (10β12 hours per week) to provide clinical oversight and medical guidance for our opioid treatment program. Working in close collaboration with the Executive Director, the Medical Director supports the delivery of safe, effective, and evidence-based care for individuals receiving medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). This role provides clinical leadership and consultation to ensure high-quality patient care while maintaining compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing clinical oversight of medical services, including monitoring, supervision, and integration of medical, nursing, and behavioral health services, ensuring safe, effective, and coordinated delivery of MOUD.
- Meet regularly with the Executive Director and leadership team to remain informed of operations and provide medical input and recommendations as appropriate. Operational implementation and resource management remain under executive leadership oversight.
- In collaboration with the Clinical Director and Medical Services Director, support integration of behavioral health and medical services to ensure coordinated interdisciplinary care and alignment with MOUD goals and patient safety standards.
- Support professional standards of care for methadone, buprenorphine, and long-acting naltrexone services, providing medical guidance on best practices and programmatic development.
- Provide case consultation and staffing support to Behavioral Health, Nursing, and Primary Care teams as needed.
- Assist with coordination of treatment plans through consultation and interdisciplinary collaboration with internal teams and community providers.
- Maintain active involvement in dosing procedures and serve as final clinical authority on medical and dosing decisions, including guidance on clinical guidelines, safety protocols, medication interactions, and adverse-event prevention.
- Work in collaboration with pharmacists and nursing leadership to provide clinical oversight and guidance regarding medication management, pharmacy operations, and nursing practices related to medication administration, observation dosing, take-home processes, and patient safety. The Medical Director serves as final clinical authority on medication-related standards and safety protocols, while operational implementation and day-to-day pharmacy and nursing management remain under designated leadership and executive oversight.
- Review and provide medical input on policies and procedures to ensure alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements, while operational policy management remains under executive leadership.
- Support development of clinical strategies and safety initiatives to reduce adverse outcomes, providing medical guidance and quality improvement input.
- Remain informed regarding diversion control processes and critical incidents, providing medical review, consultation, and recommendations as appropriate.
- Provide medical review and consultation regarding patient deaths and significant incidents; administrative tracking systems remain under designated leadership roles.
- Assist leadership with medical chart reviews and clinical risk analysis following significant incidents impacting patient care.
- Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation processes (e.g., DEA, CARF), serving as a clinical resource and ensuring medical compliance.
- Ensure medical services remain compliant with applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
- Represent the organization in clinical or regulatory matters as appropriate and support external professional relationships when requested by executive leadership.
- Maintain availability to provide direct medical services, including intakes and evaluations, and assist during emergencies or staffing needs.
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), licensed in the State of Utah.
- Experience in addiction medicine, addiction psychiatry, or a related clinical field serving individuals with substance use disorders.
- Board certified in Addiction Medicine preferred.
- Experience in opioid treatment programs (OTP) or ability to attain documented competence in opioid treatment within twelve months of hire.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations governing opioid treatment programs, including the dispensing of methadone and other medications for opioid use disorder.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements
